knife edging and tuftridning crank ??

Default knife edging and tuftridning crank ??

wanting this dont to my zetec crank .

anyone had it done - know where and how much ?

also will they lighten it , or am i better having the machine shop do that with my rods n pistons ??

also can it be polished if its been tuftrided ?

what options do i have ?

Tuftriding is a process used for steel crankshafts. Since the steel crankshaft is much softer than cast iron, tuftriding was used to harden the
crankshaft journals. Porsche used this process in most of thier engines.
Nitriding and heat treating was also used with steel crankshafts.
Since the Zetec crankshaft is cast iron, it already has sufficiently hard journals.

Knife edging a crankshaft depends on the intended use.
If the application is a racing one where RPM is well above 6,000 for extended periods, and every last HP found (or not lost)is important, then it may make sense.
In a street driven application it is a waste of money.

i had my xr2i cvh crank knife edged, it cost me Ł470 to get the crank knife edged and balanced + head skim + a flywheel skim... other then the head skim i think it was a waste of money!

get it balanced with the flywheel clutch and front pulley...

also get your rods and pistons balanced as well
