Not a honeymoon just a holiday, will be for 2 weeks. looking at Koh Samui as looks more relaxing than the likes of Bangkok or Phuket.

Helen, do all 3 places if your going for 2 weeks? Well at least do a few days in Bangkok if youve not been before. Its great fun, tonnes to do, great food and of course some interesting stuff to see of an evening...........

Let me know if you decide to do that I can point you the direction of a some great places to eat and drink.

There is also this mad dutch guy that organises cycle trips all round the city and takes you out into the swamp areas to see real Thai life. Its an amzing day out and got to be done!

Helen, the website for the company that runs the bike tours is:

http://www.realasia.net/

Go for the ABC day tour. Its about 25 quid all in and a great day out!

Any of the big chain hotels are good to stay in Bangkok. Stay somewhere around Sukhumvit Road and your central to most stuff from there.

Make sure you get on the Tuk Tuks for getting about!! Great fun and you can usually get them to race each other off the traffic lights late at night!!!

tuk tuks are getting ridiculously expensive these days for tourists - the taxi's on meter are far cheaper (unless you are accompanied by a local or can haggle like a good un)

i stayed in the sky hotel in bangkok - an 88 storey, 309m tower. my room was on the 74th floor (the highest that you can stay on ) and gave pretty good views of the city all the way out to the gulf the hotel was a bit past it's best though, but ok for the price

it looks better on the website than in real life. it's not that it's dirty or anything, just could do with a bit of decorating. still worth staying there for the views though - the rotating platform on the top floor is cool

this is a night view from our room

on koh samui we stayed in a small place called lolita bungalows at mae nam. beautiful, but not luxurious. our bungalows were beachfront with a/c, but quite basic. didn't need any more though

this is our bungalows viewed from the sea

and the beach

and the view from the deck out front

from koh samui you can get a speedboat tour of the ang thong national park area of islands - well worth doing

http://amazingsamui.com/angthong.htm

i would avoid the big places like chaweng and lamai as they're like southend or magalluf or wherever else has been ruined by seafront tat

I was there with foreigneRS over christmas
mae nam was nice
but chaweng disgusted me now

we actually did a lot of ped riding and found that the south west corner where the main road doesn't go near can be very quiet

I have been to Thailand (Krabi) and the Maldives, I preferred Thailand as you get to see lots more culture and it's still nearly as stunning as the Maldives if you pick the right place.
The maldives was quite literally mind blowing but if you don't like snorkeling or diving there isn't much else to do.
Thai people are soooooo much friendlier too, and it's usually genuine.
We were asked to go out with one of the restaurant staff and her family one night, we went in their little pick-up with all of their friends sat in the back bit

I will go back to Thailand as soon as I can but don't have the same desire to go back to the Maldives

krabi town itself is a typical thai town. no resorts there as such, they all slightly out from there. we also stayed a week in Ao Nang, just down the road. golden beach resort, with a superb luxury bungalow

a pic of our resort's pool

again, if you stay there make sure to take a speedboat excursion - we went to several small deserted islands, as well as maya bay (where the beach was filmed) and both phi phi islands and snorkelled etc

krabi is a fantastic place, stayed on ton sai beach just round the corner from Ao Nang.the resorts on riley beach were the best ones.
depends on what you want from the holiday can be pretty boring round that area. I went with a couple of mates & did a lot of rock climbing & some scuba. the people out there are so friendly its unreal, so chilled out & laid back.
if you aren't into rock climbing or just sitting around getting a tan you'd be better off with koh samui though imo

I'm quite happy to sit around with a book and get a tan LOL

Must admit would love to go to the place where the beach was filmed. May look further into Phi Phi Island.

Bangkok is dirty and filthy, wouldnt go back there. Krabi is very nice and some very exotic parts of it. Koh Sumui as above is nice but depends what you like. If you want somewhere to unwind next to a pool, very good but go out of season unless you want it heaving with tourists.

Some nice areas and some not so nice areas.

maya beach was mental busy, and always will be. check it out. there were boats parked from end to the other. and there's nothing there, no hotels or anything..

railay beach was ok, but very overcrowded. but i was there at peak season. nothing much there though. to do anything you'd have to get a longtail around to ao nang.

for chilling out by a pool helen, ao nang was great and plenty of resorts there to choose from. however, on samui you don't need a pool as the sea is so nice.
