..a rally car
..just drove mine round the block..now how noisy inside should it be and what noise should it be....it sounds like the diffs are fucked not whining just noisey would you really hear it that loud in a stripped out proper rally car?
Phil,
Sound deadening, carpet and even seats stop road noise and mechanical noise. It will be load with no interior mate. You will hear everything. I doubt your diff's are fucked, you just not used to hearing them.
I have left the centre console off mine and its just the gear stick and the noise from the gearbox is a lot more than i was expecting, so a full stripped out car is going to be loud

Sounds like the bog standard sort of thing you hear in any stripped out track/race/rally car, you need to get used to it first, then when you hear something different you will know something is fucked.
...yes i drove it 170 miles like it is now....but was told its normal by the seller and as i was looking at it for the parts alone i didnt really care!...I am just asking how loud should the transmission/diffs be in a rally car.

every clunk and crunch, every piece of gravel, and every vibration of the engine, and even the shit noisey release bearing should be heard and felt!
bound to, everythign is as good as solid mounted to the chassis, right?
its proper,, and not ment for comfort. lol
EDIT: even in road cars with expensive boxes and diffs, they are noisy,
so in that it should be crazy.

I've been in a genuine Hyundai Accent WRC on the road and that was LOUD beyond belief. so loud in fact we had to shout to each other just to talk and this was driving through town at 30mph. on idle all that you could hear was the drop gears in the X-trac gearbox rattling around like fuck. couldn't really hear exhaust noise etc. just transmission noises. sounded cool as fuck though

They are very noisy, i know both the 205's i navigate in knock and bang (yes, even more than a normal 205) and when the 'box isn;t whining, it sounds like the Diff is trying to escape.
When mine went big power, box & solid mounted diff it was too noisy for me even with full trim etc. I doubled the sound deadening & put pads on all panels to get it back to normal. If I wanted to subject myself to that sort of noise I would put my head in a bucket & get someone to bash it with a hammer, I simply dont understand why people wish to drive in all that din.
You dont need all that noise to have a fast car.

Brother had a fiesta si, and took rear seat base out so mates would stop asking for lifts
The racket in the car was too much for me!
Just goes to show, little trim removal in a stock car.
All these parts make mechanical sounds, sound proofing is under estimated.

Wasn't it gravel setup? Maybe it's got plated diffs that are set for loose surface.. if that's the case then they'll be especially noisey on grippy tarmac and real noisey at slow speed turning.
My series 2 is completley stripped and its a nightmare to drive on any surface
noisy fuel pump, gearbox noisy, stones flinging off the bottom. Luckily ive kept the head unit so i jus turn the tunes up
