Default N/A Cossie conversion....

What has to be done to a YB to convert it from Turbo - N/A....????

I know the pistons need done and the compression needs increased, head needs properly ported and cams need changed.....Need new inlet and exhaust manifolds but what else needs done?????????????

Anyone done this ???? What little problems did you have ?????

Any help much appreciated as im seriously thinking about doing this now...

make sure you have allot of cash.

My dad is into his N/A cosworth engines.

He started with a standard 4x4 bottom end with hi comp pistons a big ported head, solid lifters, different cams, twin 45's and different exhaust.
It made 217bhp on a engine dyno.

He since built a new stoked one which made it a 2.4. and ported to the absoloute max and the biggest valves possible. He is hoping for 260/280 - without the NOS

The most important thing is the head work which aint cheap!!!

I don't understand the point.

Surely it's cheaper and easier to whack in a 2L Duratec instead?

Yea of course its cheaper but its the challenge sometimes. building things and trying new things is more fun than just fitting a brand new pre built engine just my opinion.

Wouldn't be prebuilt! Would still need cams bodies omex etc

It's light too. very light.

There is little problem doing the N/A conversion, apart from as other have said the dent in your wallet....

Ideally if it's a rally car your putting it in, it'll need rods and a crank, pistons, valves, valve gear (buckets, shims etc), cams, light flywheel, dry sump and a twin paddle clutch..throttle bodies, roller barrel slide injection or carbs, then a decent managment system DTA, Emerald for fuel and ign or ign only if your doing carbs.....

The majority of the power is realised from the head, along with geometry modicatations to the bottom end. There are many well known and some lesser known people that are expert in N/A yb's. Paul Gardner has years of N/A YB experience and his engines produce really good power, Dave Brooks is another, I have a Gardner engined car in the workshop at the minute on on slide injection, 2.4 producing in the region of 265 bhp, this is slightly de-tuned from the maximum available but is bullet proof and has never given a minutes problem.....very capable of winning its class in the right hands and sounds awesome.....

My old man is old school !! anti turbo, anti throttle bodies
Thats really why he uses the n/a cossy on carbs.
But he achives good results and enjoys it..

perosanly id go for honda s2000 engine ,260bhp avaliable with a few mods they dont even benifit from throttle bodies as the standard inlet is so well designed

my mate has a honda type R engine in the rear of his mini and has 260bhp much easier way to make power
