Wiring Help Required Please UPDATED
Well further to "Fuel Pump Problem" post, I now have a wiring dilemma.
I'll try to explain, here it goes:
There are 4 brown wires underneath the rear bench, that all go to the fuel tank (I think?). On testing of these 4 wires only 1 is live when the ignition is on, the other 3 are dead/earths. The four wires continue to the offside of the car, then 2 go towards the rear and 2 go towards the front. The 2 that go towards the front then change to a red and black wire and a brown and black wire, when the ignition is on the brown and black wire is live and the red and black wire dead. All four are dead/earth when the ignition is off.
My fuel pump is not priming and thus not pumping, but my fuel gauge remains on half full, so there's some power going to and from the tank, but this should be live all the time, shouldn't it? Is it possible that this is a wiring problem and not a fuel pump problem?
I don't really know what I'm saying and what I'm doing, any help/advice appreciated.
The car's a 1995 Fiesta Si 1.6 Zetec.
Thanks in advance.

The live wire(red and black i beieve) is the pump feed mate. The petrol level is a earth switch so there will be no live to this at all as it measures resistance to give a reading,Hope this helps

Is there a fuel cut off switch under spare wheel.Has this been triggered.Otherwise maybe a immobilser gone funny as they usual cut into the fuel pump.If you have a live under rear bench i would be inclined to think it is a fuel cut off switch somewhere in boot

Update:
My dad and I took a wire direct off the battery to the red and black wire and manged to get the fuel pump to work. We've since reconnected the battery, put back all the trim and the fuel pump now works, with a bit of wiggling of the wires. I can now drive the car to the garage, and they'll be lowering the petrol tank and checking/changing the wiring on the fuel pump itself.
Thanks for your help 3drstretch.
Hopefully be totally sorted this week. Hooray!!!

yeah mate, the red and black should be live feed to the pump not dead! theres a blck block thing in the tank, on the sender unit that the wires to the pump go into then the wires come out from it and down to the pump, these can play up, not sure what they are just been told theyt can play up.
Yeah I think that's the problem.
Annoying that the pump is in the tank, but a garage should be able to sort it out quite easily, now I know what the problem is and at least I can drive it there now.

my mate had a prob with his pump and broke down loads of times, but being in the AA and at 1am plus he always called them, i dropped the tank and pump a S/H pump in and it still wouldn't go, turned out that the fuel cut off switch was playing up, even when i tested the circuit with my meter it read like there was no brake in it but once i switched the cut off, off then back on, no probs, think the pump was fucked anyway but fingers crossed no problem since
some times you only need to take the sender plug off and put it back on if the pump dont prime up.
oh, as for the fuel gauge, even if you take the clocks out it will still show the amount of fuel that you have, dunno why but thats the way it works
hope you get it sorted mate

I'm pretty sure it's not the cut off switch.
But hopefully the garage will sort it. I'd imagine it's just a loose or broken/faulty wire attached to the fuel pump or sender unit. It always works with a wiggle or two!
