Default Turbo Controller or Chip Mondeo 155 ST TDCI

Hi I own a Mondeo ST TDCI 155 on a 56 plate, I have recently been thinking of getting it chipped and have been told that I can get upto another 40 BHP. One of my work colleagues has also told me about getting a turbo controller???? which he believes is even better and cheaper. would anyone be able to give me a bit of advice on the best way option or if they have any other better options

Pointless running a turbo controller, as Diesels are mapped by turning up the fuelling and not the boost (Correct me if i am wrong though.)

But yes you can get it chipped, go on www.evolutionchips.com for more details.

As for power, yeah it should be about 185bhp with a little flash of the ECU.

HTH.

you can up the boost, so a boost contorller would work, and would allow you to control boost fluctuations more consistently

Don`t go near a shitty boost controller, the only way to get the safe reliable power from these engines is a remap of the engine control software...

When remapped correctly these cars make excellent power and torque and actually have better fuel economy under normal driving conditions...

agre with the above, but a boost controller with a remap would be good, not a bleed valve, a proper apexi or some thing

Doesn`t really seem to matter much on the diesels to be honest mate, they tend to have smaller turbo`s and run less boost anyway and the std boost control valves seem to cope no problem......

Now if someone where to go a bit radical and let me loose on a power build....

Would like to see more people experimenting with diesel power...

You must add fuel - you up the boost to make it smoke less

very roughtly speaking

i had a mk2 1.8TD with a huge saab 9000 front intercooler, boost upped to 19psi, huge cone filter, fuel pump tuned up at the derv doctor, big powerflow exhaust system and it was pretty quick. the trouble is they are a 8valve so they run out of steam at about 4.5k revs. i had alot of fun in that car!

how did he get the T28 onto the manifold? did it go straight on or need a new flange welded on.

people (apart from alex) seem to have no clue about diesel tuning.

turning up the boost isnt bad because of reliability, infact it wont really affect it- whats it gonna do, run lean and det?

fact is ALL diesels run so incredibly lean as standard (well, do ALL the time, but as standard deffo) that upping the boost wont do a thing.

as alex said, add more fuel till there too much smoke or too high EGT than you can deal with, then add more air/boost, then add more fuel, and so on.

thats the basics, the rest is conventional engine/turbo tuning really, same as petrols, just less revving and lots more boost, hell, some tuned diesels run 250psi, yes, 250...

in answer to above question, t28 should go straight on as its a T2 flange

if its TD then yeah.

pretty much in the way percy and zippy said, plus what me n alex said.

more fuel as all diesels run MEGA lean as people think black smoke is bad.

decent exhaust, filter, intercooler like any turbo car.

more boost once youve got to the point where there too much smoke (or too high EGT) for your liking.

bigger turbo once adding more fuel and boost isnt doing much.

charge temp gauge, boost gauge, and EGT gauge, they all pretty important, EGT especially.

if you go to www.dervdoctor.co.uk he will up the fuelling and boost for you on your 1.8TD, he is near derby, it costs about £130

he does it properly, and mine still passed the emissions on the MOT

the 1.8TD works well with a BIG cone filter, dont put a small cheapo one on cos it dont do much good. i paid about £40 for a big BK racing one and it made it much more quicker off the line.

turning up the fuel pump idle screws advances the off-boost fuelling aswell, and remove the shock absorber off the throttle mechanism to make it rev better.

see here for a guide:

http://www.turbo-diesels.co.uk/forum...ost/last/#LAST

if you wanted to do a FMIC on the 1.8TD it costs around £200 so its not exactly like cossy tuning money lol, but is very worth while.
