i was added on to my husbands bank acount (natwest) like 2 years ago now,

we are splitting up and i overdrew the account by 3k (there was nothing in it but had overdraft)
I Dont want him to get shafted for the debt, will the bank just take him off the account if we go together??? As i want to square up when my car sells.

 

by the sounds of it, if you were added onto HIS account then HE is liable

The same thing happened with me. Your husband will be the principle account holder as he opened it. He can take you off, but not vice versa. (Well with Halifax anyway)

Pay the Ł3k into the bank in person and then sign to close your part of the account down. If they ask for his signature then tell him what you put above, they should be ok and your conscience is then clear

i have not got the 3k atm to put in the account, so i want to have the account, on my name only, he agreed to it, and i settle up with the bank when i can.

It's unlikely the bank will agree to take anyone off until the debt is paid - right now they can pursue either or both of you for the money and there is no reason for them to release any of their rights.

If you are a good credit risk in your own right, they may agree to the debt becoming yours, in which case they will probably open a new account in only your name and transfer money from that account to settle the original debt, leaving you responsible for the balance on your own.

The foreman at my old work went through a lot of bother after his wife left him for someone else, she fucked off and left him on new years day just out of the blue and moved in with another man, left him at home with the 3 kids. He was forced to sell the house and give her half, also had to cash in all his savings ploicys that had been set up for the kids and she took half of that as well. Crippled the poor fella for long enough and was all wrong in my opinion, if you deceide to walk away from the marriage/partnership because of something you have done ( like shag someone else ) then you should leave with fuck all.

She didnt give a fuck and am sure was pressured into it cos the dude she shacked up with had money problems.

 

But its in context with the situation she is explaining. She's not just using the word for the sake of it
