i've been offered the chance to go with a really good mate of mine, a girl who i met whilst surfing in africa, she only lives half hour down the road from me in the UK and we get on super well.
shes heading out for a month at easter.
financially i can do it, also works all ok.
i'm just doing some recearch into the place and am 50/50 about it.
would be an awesome experience no doubt
anyone been?views?
cheers!

Alright mate depends where ya go i guess. But some guys i used to work with went out there with the job, most would not go back every and some had to wear an adult nappy on the flight back lol.
My sister was there last year and she hated it, Originally she was going to spend 2 months there but left after only 2 and a half weeks. She couldn't go anywhere without being hounded for money and men would try and touch her up wherever she went. I hope your pal is prepared for it. My sister has travelled the world for best part of last 4 years and she's seen and been in some bad places but she rates India as the worst place she's ever been.
Don't let that put you off tho.

as with everywhere there is always good parts and bad. i spent 2 weeks in dehli working at an airbase and the airbase and surroundign area was amazing as it was very well off but be prepared to see some very very poor people living on roundabouts and on the side of roads too.
definately an experience and in dehli worth going just for a 40mph ride in a tuk tuk the wrong way down a sliproad in the dark with no lights for 30p!!!

india is possibly the cheapest "civilised" place to live, but here are a few pointers regardless of where you go
only drink water that you have seen filtered in a filter bucket or from a sealed bottle, to do anything else is to risk seriuosly fucking yourself up
don't ask for extra chilli, this will seriously fuck you up
don't give to beggers, once they see you have money they won't stop hounding you
make sure you go with someone who will see that you don't get ripped off for fares, carriage charges, basicly everything will go up by at least 300% as soon as they know you are an outsider
don't make the mistake of thinking you'll be ok with just your wits about you, india is full of conmen who will scam you as soon as look at you, and don't think the police will help much either, the phrase "money talks" has never been as apt as it is in india
go there and enjoy yourself and don't take too many risks with the basics and the rest looks after itself
and they normally tend to show great admiration of people who speak proper english (beause they think they will have more money to dish out
)the sticks are much nicer places to visit than the crowded parts too as you can see the calmness rather than the constant hubhub of peole pushing their way past

hey thanks for the replys, was kinda my take on the place, getting hassled a lot and being a bit edgy. I mean South Africa had that side to it, but the surfing more than made up for it and some parts are pretty nice as in towns etc, and the scenery is absolutely stunning their all the way up the east coast.
have got some book to read on my lunch breaks so will look into it more.
very 50/50 at the moment
then again only live once
also whats the situ with wiping your arse? is andrex a no no???!!

My old man was taken out there on a kind of business trip and said he would most certainly go back as he was treated like royalty and loved the place. Think it was Bangladesh mainly he was in but also visited some of the poorer districts. He said the skills most of the workers he met were truely amazing as he was looking into importing furniture and was taken to some of the factorys and was amazed by the skills and everything being done by hand.
The driving over there scared the shit out of him though as think its a free for all and cars and buses and the like bumping into each other all the time !!!
He had a fantastic experience over there and has nothing but good things to say about the place. Except he did scoff a particularly hot curry one night and gave him a right old dose of the shits for a day or two !!

I've been and would go back, granted you need to be wise and ensure that food & water is bought from a good source, its just so cheap though. The beggars's and the lame are a pest at first, you dont half see some sorry sights, expect kids looking for pencils for their education to follow you about and yeah its true about using your hand after the andex runs out
The people on the whole are friendly and there are some beautiful sights to be seen, go for it

let's put this andrex myth to bed once and for all
you go to the bog for a dump
you take a bottle of water with you
you use the bottle of water to wash your arse clean
then you wash your hands once you are outside the bog
the posh places to tend to provide toilet paper for tourists but otherwise it's the way it's done so either get yourself a few rags to bin on your travels or don't eat any thing

Where are you planning on going in India? Not that it really matters, i have only travel around Rajasthan (Mumbai, Delhi, Agra, Johdpur etc) and
its was truely an amazing experience, i would highly recommend it. The people are so so friendly and the cost of living is next to nothing, oh and the foods not bad either

it's not just what you eat, it's because of the heat as wll as the possibility of getting some dodgy water as well
a few years ago there was a bit of an epidemic of dengue fever which my cousin caught and it was life and death for a few days so the risks are there even for the locals
and the food makes you poo a lot more as well because it's mainly vegitation, you'll go to a resteraunt and there won't be a veggie menua, there'll be a non-veg menu
