without sounding thick but how do i find out if my PC will run SATA hard drives ???

looking at replacing my small and tired HD's with a couple of 1TB SATA drives but not sure if my computer supports them , and yes i need that much space as i do a lot of video editing and store plenty movies , pics and music

does your pc have the plugs to run sata drives? if so then chances are itll be fine lol though you can buy converter leads if you dont already have the sata plugs on ya motherboard

.....or you can buy an SATA controller board and run them off that if your motherboard doesnt support them!!!

does that sound about right ?

It wont make any difference, if your board can run a sata 2(3gbs) then it will run at that speed, if your board only runs sata 1(1.5gbs) then your board will run the drive at that speed. The are backwards compatible, and obviously a sata 1 drive will not run at sata 2 speeds.

The board posted in the link above is sata 1, dont worry a sata 2 drive will still work at the lower speed.

the only disk you could get 300mbs between sata drivers are the 250gb as they usually have 3 plates an can manage that speed

Some sata drives will have a jumper on the drive which will speed limit to 1.5GB/s. Depends on which drive you are buying.
