Default towing using an a-frame

does anyone have any information on the requirements to use an A-frame to tow a car?

ie does the car being towed need tax and mot, and also does it fall under a trailer cat or is it as simple as just an alternative to a rope/bar?

Also how do the single man ones attach to the car being towed? may seem like a really stupid question but i wouldnt want to do it wrong if i got one and end up with the car going a different direction to me!

well heres my experience - the bars go on the steering arms on the front and the chain goes up and over and moves the arms when going round a bend cant really explain it in words its weird how it works but it does lol - ive towed my mk2 escort back from brum approx 20 miles from me with no problems what so ever. then towed a mk4 escort back from swindow 75 miles from me and something didnt seem right but put it on the same way as did the mk2 and had 2 stop 2 times to tighten the straps, then we went round a bend and one of the straps came off and the mk4 hit the towing car lol not much damage but fookin scary. im now poised as to weather to get 1 or not as this one was my mates lol

the chains go over top of wishbone and come out underneith and to the straps, chains fold over and come out ont he inside of the frame to help saving fouling wheels, the frame will have hooks at end these sit over top of frame they are direction angled so point to inside of frame

steering lock off so ign to number 1 etc

then set the crossbar equally, ratchet tight and off ya go, i allways pull over and recheck straps down the road a little way
