Default RS Turbo Roll-Cage help.....

This cage....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OMP-Bolt-in-St...sid=p1638.m118

.....for example. Says that it penetrates the dash-board, can anyone be more specific?

I know the Safety Devices ones are made in Europe now, anyone had one since they moved production? Quality OK? Do these clear the dash?

normally with these you need to cut about 3-4 inch off the side of the dash

its the part that is next to doors that is set back from the main dash (i think )

i have one of these and am dreading chopping up my dash , its a proper mk3 RS dash with NO cracks , holes or splits !

Looks ok. What are the small bars at the top for? Across the doors?

here you go, my mates car with OMP cage fitted..hope its of some use. doesn't interfere with dash but you do need to butcher door cards for the door bars and you have to mod the glovebox lid so it still opens..

Just looked again. Look too small to go across the doors. Just spare tube?

they are door bars, you cut and weld the boses on yourself, put them how high / low you like

Looks like the pics me and Gus posted are of a different cage. Not sure which is the correct one!

Christian,I have an OMP cage in my car and the dash did'nt need to be cut.And in my opinion the photo of the cage you are bidding on also does'nt need to be cut, even though the spec says that it penetrates the dah.MAYBE THE WRONG PITURE IS UP ON THE SITE????

Now ignore that my car has no dash on the passenger side, but you can clearly see the cage bar that runs down the A pillar has the same bend as the one on ebay, this bend is too keep the cage outside the dash and so no cutting is required.Hope this helps, regards,Micky

Jasus Christian,I'm like a dog at a bone on this topic!!!
Anyhow, more proof that the dash does'nt need to be cut with that rollcage in the picture on ebay.

This is my OMP cage before it went in the car and in my opinion its the same as the cage on ebay.Regards,Micky

Christ, I only just noticed that there had been some useful replies on here!! Thanks guys.

Now, one more thing. Regarding the Sunroof/no Sunroof thing.

Is the cage for a non-Sunroof car higher than that for one with a Sunroof? The reason I ask is that currently the car has a Sunroof, but sometime in the not-too-distant future it will be getting a non-Sunroof roof replacement. I really don't want to do that yet, but similarly don't want to buy the 'Sunroof' cage and find it is shit when the roof is swapped.

So, in summary, will the non-Sunroof cage go in my car?

a non sunroof cage will be taller as it will fit snug with the roof line

sunroof cassette is good couple of inches thick

There are VERY clearly defined limits of where and where not to mount door bars gus

I was going to say, Would be pointless welding it in any position Kinda defeat the object of a door bar

Christain, when I bought the SD one for my old RST there were two choices. The one that penetrated the dash was also close to the roof which is the one I went for so the sunroof had to go. The other version ran in front of the dash and was lower so it cleared the sunroof.

So, I wonder how shit it will look if I buy the Sunroof one, which will clear the dash (presumably), then later on lose the sunroof?

With padding on it wont look shit at all, infact you wont notice.

The mm's of diference is only important if you ever intend to use it, and by that time if ever you do its too late to worry.

If your worried about looks put some shiny shit under the bonnet, if your concerned about safety anything reputable is 100% better than nothing.
