When did you first take them on a plane? Not sure wether to go abroad or not in 08? Shell only be 18 months old by the time we;d be going.

Uncles villa has just been finished in cyprus with annexe and we can go when we want but im unsure of taking Esmay on a flight so young?

I have a 15mth old and don't think i'd take him on a plane for a while. There's no fookin way he'd stay up in our lap for a 3hr flight!! End up chasing him around the plane. Lots of people do it though. Pints of Calpol i suppose. We went on hols by ferry last year, Went handy enough.

thse are like proper moses bascket type things they can move about in and play about in and stuff like that
2 seats wide as wll and you get a builkhead seat beacuse there is a panel which folds down and you strap the cot to it once oyu are air borne, during take off you srap the kid to yourself and then strap yourself into the seats as per nomrla

but i won't recommend taking kids up too early

and you've also got to make sure they are sucking on a bottle othewise they play up with the presurisation in their ears during take off and landing

They usually do... sommat to do with curviture of the spine if you leave a young child in it for too long... believe me... its a load of crap. Fair enough... if they are left in there constantly.... but you wouldn't do that anyways.

G/f's step brother has flown all of his from about 3 months from Europe to Australia. The long flight aside, they can do it. The basinettes are for up to 6 months old that hook onto the bulk heads so that is another indication of age people fly with young ones at.

As long as you and the wife can cope with a kid in the air (screaming especially if their ears don't pop), go for it.

Edit - Just made sense of Dojj's post and some of mine is covered in that.

The best parents are the ones that don't read the books and instructions.... books and instructions scare you half to death, the best advice you can get is from your parents/friends who have already had the experience. After all, we are all here .... aren't we????

if your young ones have suffered a lot of colds recently, they could suffer from "aeroplane ear"
it does not just occur in children, but adults too.

it is a seriously bad pain and really fucking hurts, ive had it and it was baaad!!!!!

cant imagine what it would feel like for a young child. can only recommend making sure that when the plane is landing, stay awake and make sure the kid/s stay awake too!!!

if you get this pain (feels like a really really bad headache, but worse!) hold your nostrils closed, and act as if you were going to blow your nose (so your nostrils fill with air, and the air is forced towards the ears because the nostrils are blocked) i found this slightly relieved the pain. didnt fix the problem, but made it feel a LOT better

i was told by one of the airline crew (in qatar) that there is a type of ear cleaning you can have done before travelling that can help this a lot. not sure if this can be done in england? (probably can?) never really looked into it or heard of it before? but definitely worth asking a doctor about it??? (or ear specialist if you know of any?)

hope this info is useful to anyone who is flying anytime soon or in the future

i noticed lots of little babies on planes when we went away, who were just sat on their parents laps, but tbh like you say, i wouldnt dream of taking Finley on a plane, he sits still for all of 5 minutes

cant you get a night flight so shes asleep?

we gonna go to France next year, via ferry

We took our little girl Aimee to Lanzarote this year just before she was 3 years old. she understood bout going on aeroplane and she was fine. I know a few people that have taken there children within months old so really it depends on you & your child. Children adjust to most situations so you wont know till you try it.

Hope you all have great time if you chose to go.

We took Leah on a plane when she was 5 months! She loved it i think. Was just a short flight to spain. Didnt effect her in any way. Airline's couldnt have helped more. + you get on the plane first. They let you keep your pram/buggy till just before you board. They give you blankets etc etc . Great experience for us as parents and i'm sure it was a great experince for her aswell. just do it.

We took Rosie to spain @5mths, america @10mths, and Max just come back from america @9mths, and he went to spain @4mths. one thing, i would get her own seat as a 18mth old on your lap for 4 hours is gonna kill ya!! ( and not to mention you will have room to spread out, and her luggage allowance! we never took any car seats on board! )

HTH's.

The first time we went abroad our son was 2yrs 4mnth but we also went to bendiorm a couple of year back and our daughter was 7 weeks old, the middle one was 15 month old and the oldest was 4 . i thought it would be a complete nightmare but it wasn't, the 2 boys were that engrossed at looking out of the window they didn't really bother messing about. I had the baby strapped to me and John had Kai strapped to him and Bailey had his own seat. Just make sure you give her a lolly to stop her little ears popping and she'll be fine.

As said above, would highly recommend getting her ears cleaned out before you go, or she will likely scream like fook on take off and landing.

Savannah was 16months old when we took her to portugal. You just have to go prepared with lots of stuff to entertain them. Take some milk or water to drink just as you're taking off to help them equalise their ears.

Savannah was fine upto 10mins before landing coming home when she threw up everywhere but she is a sicky baby

Trapped in a plane for 7 hours with someone else's kid screaming and puking everywhere. HEAVEN!!

Only joking, we have two (grown up now) and, although they were usually well behaved on planes, they had their moments.

A mate of mine took his kids on a plane travelling business class from Rome and their wee lad threw a major tantrum that lasted for hours. It got so loud and so bad, and lasted for so long that my mate and his wife were ready to throw themselves out the window. Some of their fellow passengers were NOT at all sympathetic - mind you, if I had paid as much for my luxury seat in peaceful surroundings I may well have been the same!

just leave the baby at home in a cupboard for a couple of weeks and im sure she will be fine. just make sure you leave a tin opener so she can open the tins of food herself. and some matches so she doesnt get afraid of the dark.
