Default MkV RS2K - PROJECT: TEAM PADDY

Took this in swap for the RST, the guy had been on at me for AGES about having the tubby [since march 2007 ] and I got fed up of not doing anything to it.. so a deal was struck and I now have a Mk5 "bonnet bulge" RS 2000.

Some info:

Make: Ford

Model: Escort RS2000

Owners: 4

Colour: Black

Mileage: 72,000 - Loads of old MOTs and receipts

Standard spec: Power Steering, Electric Windows, Sunroof, Electric Mirrors, Recaro interior

Current Modifications: 15" Fox Alloys, Cone Filter [possibly K+N], Stainless Steel Exhaust [possibly Magnex], Gemini alarm, tinted rear lights, clear front fogs.

It came with a years MOT and I drove it a fair way home without incident. The car is very tidy for the year and the mileage is an obvious bonus.

Here it is, as it stands now [better pics to follow]:

THINGS TO DO:

1. The front tyres are shot to fuck [god knows how it got through the MOT on November 8th]. I have 2 x Yoko something or others [my tyre man recommended them] being fitted tomorrow.
2. I found an RS4 spoke steering wheel I got for a previous car, may fit that tomorrow if I get the chance.
3. The rear arches need tidying up [petrol cap area is very clean].
4. Check it up on the ramp to make sure it's sound.

PLANS:

I plan to track it.

As long as it's structurally sound when checked, I'll take it on a novice day and see how it performs before making any changes to the spec. Probably limit it to brakes and suspension mods anyway.. been quoted £400 for a full bilstein kit which I thought was good value for the quality!?

But I'm considering a little "toughening up" of the exterior. I think the splitters [Laguna or Seat cordoda] look great on black cars, I think quad headlights look god too [plus the obvious aid to cooling if the centre lights are removed] and I also think black wheels look da bomb yo! I photoshopped, what do you think?

Anyone got in any ideas [or bits hanging around, not bothered about engine mods yet, but suspension, brakes, strut braces etc. ]

Just throw a pink rollcage in and you'll be hot to trot

Not a shame at all! Nothing will be done to it that won't improve it and/or can't be reversed

I certainly won't be stripping it out and putting a roll cage in, as I know I don't enjoy that sort if thing after one of the old "projects" that died a death through laziness

In my opinion, it's better that it gets taken out on track and used in anger a bit, because that way it'll always be looked after PROPERLY rather than a car someone may use everyday and abuse without taking proper care!

And the reason it's "TEAM PADDY" is because the old man has shown an interest in getting some laps in as well... guess what his name is

His name IS Paddy too! Although, I'm Paddy 2.

Anyway, minor update, the boss for the steering wheel is too big so can't be arsed with that.

Put 2 new front tyres on it today as both the old ones looked like this:

It was MOT'd november 8th

Which is why I want it up on a ramp to check the rest of it is ok.

Those tyres are unbelievable Paddy 2

Didn't you have an argument about whether you can be Paddy 1 as it is your car

Be good to have a look underneath it as the tyres really are shocking

New tyres on, I took it to a mechanics last night but one thing led to another and I never got to look at it on his ramp. So I parked it at work. Will get there probably after the weekend.

Noticed the boot was a bit damp. Definitely coming in through the seal on one of the rear lights. Thought I'd take them out and silicone them... then decided once they were out I'd have a fiddle and see how much tin worm had made it's way through:

The rear is surprisingly sound from the outside, it gave me a chance to clean it properly though :

Wheel well was sound and not damp, so the leak wasn't too bad. Bit scratched though:

The seem that runs in the boot underneath the loading cover was a bit corroded. A touch of rust remedy [Truston Extra - the bollocks! turns rust back to metal, no idea how] painted along and left for a few hours;

Whilst I had the remedy out, I thought I'd take the battery out and have a look at the tray. It's surprisingly sound [and original] but where I spotted rust, I painted Truston on

I took the passenger seat out to have a look under the carpet, seems ok under there but this pic shows how minging the car was:

SO I GOT REALLY KEEN

Rubbed down the wheel well, couple coats of primer and a couple of coats of some metallic black I found and she's come up a good 'un. Shame the fucking wheel will be covering it and no-one will ever see

After the rust treatment was done treating, I blew over the seem in the boot and the battery tray:

Ran some silicone around the seems of the lights and cleaned around everything whilst I was at it:

Waiting for the treatment to harden [and in between dealing with a few cuntsomers] I got a bit keen and cleaned the old girl thoroughly on the inside. I use this "blue stuff" which is basically an industry upholstery/carpet cleaner. It mixes 80:1 and is very powerful stain remover and cleaner, perfect to properly clean vinyl trim and carpet. This is just a cleaner though, so I use some silicon based spray to bring a bit of a shine up after:

Whilst I was waiting for the treatment, I also got a chance to re insulate some of the wiring under the bonnet wear it had been cut into for stereos/alarms and just worn away over time:

The owner basically cut the wires to take the stereo out in a hurry [cheers buddy ]. I've got a load of old head units sat here, so I'll stick one in when I get a chance [and obviously before I put the battery back in ]

For brakes stick with STD disk and try Mintex 1144s or if your after some serious track use 1155s.

Std suspension if in good nick is surprisingly good, cheap suspension kits like GMAX are utter wank, but Bills are good

Book yourself onto the Beds trackday in Feb 08 at Bedford matey and see you there
