Default HELP MY COSSIES GONE MAD (Electrical Problems)

hey boys

ma cossies goin mad lol

its starts proper but when u switch it of u can take the keys out and the car will still be on engine running everything but no keys in ignition.
we thought it was the barral and changed tht but same problem then we found out the alternator had shorted changed tht and same problem checked the relays stater motor but they are fine

any help or suggestions to help please

to off the car u have to stall it and the lights on dash board remain on and drains the battery.

HELP

What type of Cossie is it? EsCos had various electrical gremlins mostly related to the fusebox.

i had this on my escort earlier,
turned off ignition..............engine ran on alternator light came on
turned the sidelights on
then off and the engine went off

didnt do it again after that all night

mines doin it all the time i dnt knw wut the hells gone wrong could it be some kind of wire short or something and wut is and overrrun problem this may be a checkable area cheers

dunno mate i know i have electrical issues

got a escort loom to fit now, was using a sierra one before.

BTW its a mk4 escort if that didnt make sence.

mines been shit electrically since i built it

Sounds like a diode has gone in the alternator which is allowing current from the battery to backfeed through the blue indicator circuit wire from the alternator to the dash clocks, which is then holding the ignition circuit live.

An easy way to test this (there are others but I find this definitive) is to disconnect the alternator warning light bulb and see if the engine stops. If it does, alternator is shot, if not, then you have other issues, which means disconnecting things until it does stop (which could cause other problems).

disconect the ignition switch when it does it .if it stall thers your problem if it doesnt its getting power from som thing else
