One word, boring. Had a drive of a mates car.
I guess they will be reliable etc but would personally get the diesel as stated above somewhere.

i've got one.

which is actually going to be for sale soon.

granted they dont ¨feel¨ quick but they are suprinhsly quick when compared to cars like RST's and GTTT.

Its a bit like comparing a 200bhp RS Turbo, and a 400bhp cossy, the escort ¨feels¨ faster, as it is, less comfy, noiser, and handles worse.

But in reality is miles slower.

Ive got a 51 plate (AUM). Ive had mine for about a year and a half now and the problems I have had are N/S/F window regulator, sticky butterfly in throttle body, clonking noise from front ARB links and a faulty oxygen sensor. There are a few common faults with them like window regs, MAFs, coil packs, crap standard dump valves but nothing major.

IMO 1st gear is shocking but the rest pull very well. Some say its a boring car but then it depends on personal taste. I love the comfort of these cars hence sell my ERST S2 for one.

With a chip, exhaust and filter on mine I'd be looking at 235bhp ish (obv depending on a decent set up). Motorway miles I can get about 370 miles to a full tank. I have seen 40mpg flash up on my trip but dont know how accurate it was.

The best place for advise is www.uk-mkivs.net They are very helpful.

Diesels cost a hell of a lot more to buy as well cos i have been looking to.The later petrols are 180bhp so these may go very well as the early ones are only 150brake

If you are going to do all that the S3 is the better car, you don't really need to do all that..... Although S3 is very tame for the power, nice car but doesn't feel like the stats suggest.

TDi all the way.
