as above also they rot in the usual places and around the fuel filler cap, personally i wouldnt buy one unless its got a erst lsd box and been converted to run a t3 turbo instead of the t2

Rust round the filler cap and a shitty turbo that's too small. The rust thing is an issue but the turbo problem can be overcomeby fitting a T3

Love my FRST to bits

well they are relaible if you drive and treat them right, but if ya wanna have fun then it will cost money to keep going, personally i would put a escort LSD gearbox as the tandard frst box only one wheel will spin and can be dangorous round bends or wheelspinning
they have great handeling when lowered but the back end will ste out if you push it to hard and once that happens the shit has hit the fan so to speak
The standard T2 turbo spins up quickly and makes it great off the line but the small turbo can run out of puff in higher powered revs and isnt exactly pleasant on the motorway as it is almost always on boost so its bigger brother the T3 is able to help get more power and the conversion is quite simple if your are good with a spanner and socket set and get the right parts, just be carful of the rad if your using a T3!!!!!
the body work is common on fiestas to rot around petrol cap and boot lock
to get a bit more power (180 bhp) you will need chipped ecu, 3bar map sensor, beige injectors

Once you have had one you will always rember it!!!!! i love mine like a child (over exageration) and have respect for other owners as i love them (the cars not the owners)lol

the cars are not too bad Pete, especially if you don't want big power.

please don't spend too much on it as it may be hard to get back.

good luck mate.

dave is correct it is very hard to gain money back on them you can spend thousands and will loose it when it comes to selling but that sadly is the case on most old fords! but thats why we love them!

i had an absolute minter for about a year, and i've come across quite a few others.

as said rust is a big worry, filler caps usually go (90% of the time)...if there's no rust check for a repair just in case...sills go at the rear, and even in the door shuts, i've seen floors go too.

The engines are sound and tbh i'd stick with a T2 if you only want 180bhp....mine had 228bhp but the poor little thing was being run to it's limit and it was shite at the top end really....but great spool up

T3 is an easy enough conversion though.

the management is a worry IMO, most have superchips fitted, and these are tempremental, and the system on the whole is just a bit 'non user friendly'....ideally you'd change to cossie management, which is fairly simple and inexpensive nowadays.

great looking cars though when mint

any specific questions just ask...i'd be glad to help

Personally i would defo go for the t3 if you are looking at tweaking the power, thet t2 runs out of puff so to sacrifice a slighlty slower of the line speed get a t3. Pulls so much stronger!

rust, show me a 10+year old Ford that doesnt. same as above keep an eye on sills b-pillars lower windscreen and rear end.

If your wanting to spend a bit on it make sure you go for one which if been modded comes with a good source of history mechanically.

Cvh engines are never the quitest make sure the oil filler is not bolted on signs of an engine about to expire.

If you want any ideas on modding one drop me a PM mate

As for cosowrth management i would recommend Jano on this, anti lag too perhaps

The t3 conversion is failry straightforward all you need for the job is the folowing.

T3 turbo
esc rst - manifold downpipe oil feed pipe and oil drain.off the turbo.
You can then fix a rubber elbow from this to the boss on the block.
The pipe work will need slightly modding but this is possible by modding the pipework you have on the t2.

Thats that fitted, but the hardest or more aggrevating part is to move the rad forward.

You have to decide here to keep the lock mechanism or ideally for safty and practicality fit bonnet pins.

The rad needs to be moved forward to allow the actuator to have room.
Only about an inch or two to be safe.

Other than that its sweet, still run standard map etc.

Cheers guys..Really appreaciate this...

Any pics of the T3 thing bein done??? Like a "step by step" thing???

I dont really want huge power from it,as its a standard, low mile,WELL looked after car...SO just want about of fun ona week end out of it,and RELIABILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Standard coolers up to much??

When i had my RST i put a evo 7 cooler on it,but with the size of a FRST,and how clean it is,i dont really wanna be choping it up tbh...

So is standard managment just pure wank as standard,or just something that only needs doing if you wanna beef up the horses???

Pete....

Lovely example mate but change those clocks for black faced ones again.

I would highly recomend the t3 though and also when the time arrives a set of coilovers, transforms the car seriously.

Cossie management isn't too difficult.....i'd get Karlos to sort it for you, i think all you will need is a cossie throttle body and TPS, cossie ecu and injectors (yellows will probably be fine, or light greens) ...the fiesta comes with a CPS, but i dunno if the cossie management uses it or you have to use a cam trigger doofer....as said Karl would be my choice, he can also tell you why the standard managemnet is no good too

On to my 3rd FRST, they're the most stunning looking 'hot' hatch of all time IMO. Nothing comes close in the looks dept.

As for driving the fucking things. Urgh, horrible. The short rack is a pain in the arse the ride's too bumpy they splutter and are a general pain. But and it's a HUGGGGEEEE but.... I can't get enough of them, they're simply gorgeous!

Buy it Pete

Hopefully its been stored inside?, give it an oil and filter change and I would drain the fuel
and put some new in, and see if she starts

Just gives me an opportunity to post up my favourite picture of mine

like any car, you get what ya pay for, you pay peanuts your get a shitter.

every car suffers with rust in common places and the filler cap is one on the mk3's but easy fixed.
some people dont like the T2 turbo, and its far from shitty, but it depends on what you want from the car, if you want a nippy car with some good low down get up and go stick with a T2 if you want balls out top end then a T3 is the only way but i still run a T2 on my FRST and its does what i want it too, and ive owned my FRST since 98 and she didnt even have 30k on the clock when i got it, and i love and would not part with it.

as for problems listed in some replyes, i disagree, the rack is fine, but its the only fiesta that uses that rack, its a quick rack, also the ball joints are different on the FRST, and shocks, in std form are fine, there 25mm lower than the 2i (from std this is) and most people put a 30mm lowering kit on and then complain that its bumpy and crap, and i lowered mine on std shocks when i first got it so im talking from first hand as it was bumpey and crap , but the coil overs are far better now

oh, and that ABS on your fez, it will be pants, the ABS system on fiestas is a bit crap to say the least, removing it would be a good idea
