I dont see a problem with it being only the people who support the site that get to discussed how its run, that seems like a perfectly reasonable approach to me.

Cant see why you have such a problem with it TBH

I forgot its Saturday, schools out it would seem.
Why are you making such a big issue over a thread that was originally posted in the wrong section and then moved to the correct one?

Not making an issue at all! Just allowing those that were following the thread to re-find it

Surely they can do that simply by clicking in the appropriate room, and then they can see all the other threads along the same topic too if it interests them?

No, that would just be childish, which as I have expressed in the other thread would surprise me greatly, as I have always considered you to be one of the better Mods (one at least that I would expect to hear an alternative point of view and discuss it, rather than dismiss it with insults in the way that Martin appears to like to deal with things)

Becuase the current setup of the site wont allow that!

If GD is oversubscribed then fine - deal with it. BUT 23 subsections! Seriously???

You seem to of conveniently remembered to omit the fact that I have stated many times already that the problem was a simple one; a thread was posted in the wrong area, and then moved to the correct one.
Its really very basic logic.

The fact you bite so easily and are obviously getting wound up about it says everything.
Maybe you should stop and think for a moment about the fact that you are sitting at your PC on a Saturday morning, and getting yourself stressed out over a wrongly posted thread?

Why am I a hypocrite?

When GD got split and technical posts were easier to find, I was all for it.

I preferred that approach to the number of rooms we have here, but as that was decided against, its either "all in one big room" or lots of little rooms to choose between, my opinion is that lately its just go so busy that its no longer working, so I think if more of the useful users of the site get behind the mods in the push to using all the rooms properly it will make for a better site.

If you want mate, go and have a look at the website I run:
www.vauxsport.com

And you will see that EVERYTHING im saying here is exactly what works really well for us, almost no arguing, no massive number of stupid posts from certain members who reply to posts just to get attension even though they have no useful input to give etc.

I reckon its worth giving it a go as its been proved not to work the other way round IMHO unless you are on here 24/7

So please can you explain to me in what way Im a hypocrit?

Martin

I complain about almost nothing on this site. For that I would hope that when I do have a gripe I would hope that at least earns me the right to be heard.

If you have an issue with that - then it is your own, not mine.

You are not even properly understanding my point of view which is what winds me up!

As a MOD I expect so much more than I do of a normal member (someone such as Chip). If you cannot deal with that then fine, please please just step away from the discussion and let me chat with Jay about it.

There is nothing to discuss, and never was!

A thread was posted in the wrong area, and has been moved.

End of.

YOU are the one making a big deal out of it, no one else!

Chip

You are a hypocrite because before this post (and discounting any posts that have been moved to Tech by mods) you have almost never posted in Tech Q&A.

As such, you are not following your own "good advice". You are proving my point. Lets pretend that you try to help people. You and others only post in GD. On that basis, you are the cause of the problem!!! Until advice givers do more than just wax lyrical on posts like this - the problem will remain exactly as it does now!

I still believe that there are too many subcategories.

Until you can persuade the advice-givers to look in the right place, the rest of it will be a completely pointless excercise. The first step surely has to be to reduce the number of sub-categories to a manageable number?

As you have said though - I have made my point. You have heard my view at least.

I don't see what the problem is?

A thread was moved to a room specific to the topic.

OK, so people can quote hundreds of examples of times this has NOT happened but it has to start somewhere.

The bloke that started the topic for information even stated how they got annoyed with the "bandwagoners" and people posting to take the piss/arguing etc. Isn't it clear that if you want technical advice, you're better off posting in those rooms to avoid exactly that?

We've all done it though, posted a technical query in the busiest room.

But as was pointed out, it's likely to be buried in an hour under the rubble of pootube links.

You are TOTALLY missing the point!

The reason I havent been replying much in the technical section is cause all the interesting technical posts tended to be in GD, I can only reply to them where they are.

Besides, like I said, IMHO it DID work all in GD, but its just got too overcrowded in there now, so I want to see a CHANGE (as in NOT doing what we have all been doing previously, me included) towards making use of the appropriate sections.

How the fuck does that make me a hypocrit?

You really are being quite unpleasant here to someone who considers you a friend seemingly just cause I happen to have a different opinion to you about how websites should be structured, I think Martyn is right that you are getting a bit carried away emotionally over something so trivial.

Fair comment, Paddy - and I agree that I have picked up on only one. I just think that more needs to be done to ensure that those providing the advice are looking that the posts calling for aid. This is my opinion, and I am not suggesting for a minute that you should do everything as I say!

Chip

I agree - I appear to have let this get to me somewhat this morning - not entirely sure why, but it did!

BUT

I still maintain that people such as yourself are critical to this website. If people like you are not looking at the right parts of the forum, then you wont be giving that advice to people such as me who require it! THAT is my problem with your comments - not that you disagree with me.

If I threw my toys out of my pram every time we disagreed, we would never speak! LOL

Really it was originally a back handed compliment as I am saying that without your input, this site wouldnt work. And putting posts where you wont look at them will deteriorate it! Make that an insult!

Personally Im totally pissed off with all the braindead bangwagon jumpers all over technical threads purely to throw personal insults, to the point that I am questioning wether its worth bothering with using PF anymore when I can go and answer similar questions on places like www.vauxsport.com without the needless crap from self obsessed twats who post not because they have any useful input at all but purely to see their name on the screen or get attention or whatever, so using my own advice (which you so kindly mention is valuable to some people) no one will be getting it if things keep detoriating the way they are doing so currently, and the site will be left with a bigger percentage of twats who post in technical threads with replies of no value and a smaller percentage of useful replies.

Fundamentally, I agree with you Chip, (and Jay), and I admit that Chip gets bated excessively by many members on hear unfairly when he is only trying to help.

My concern remains that there are too many rooms.

I will keep my mouth closed and see how it transpires, and I will do my bit. I only want assurance that the Mods will genuinely keep an eye to ensure that if it doesnt work that something is done to keep the site as good as so often is!

My input is simple.
All those complaining the forum has too mnay rooms and not enough car related or tech chat need to ACTUALLY TRY THE OTHER ROOMS.

The rest of us are loving it in teh correct rooms, as we get to leave you lit bitching in GD about Jailed tuners and small penises.

I think I am the guy bitching the most on this one, Stu

My concern is that I think that if All of the rooms as they are remain the quality of the feedback from those of you that help will inevitably deteriorate. Most will not have the patience that you have to troll through all of them to help people.

Chip has explained to me reasonably well the concerns of PF in its current state, and I now have more sympathy for the situation than I did, but I still feel that the power of PF remains with the level of contribution from the learned members.

PF GD is unquestionably full of shit. That said, the quality of the resource is astonshingly good for things unrelated to cars. It is so good that I am prepared to sit here annoying people about it!

As I have said in the past, anything that risks damaging that should at the very least be considered quite carefully (and I am not saying that it hasnt, just that I think it should!)

stu stops for lunch shocker

back to the point, if topics are moved, why don't they have a shadow link left so. when you click the link, you get directed to the post in the room it was moved to?
that way you still get people posting in gd etc but the answers will apear in the correct rooms

change the name from "general discussion" to "can't figure out what room you want to post in?"

you never know, it might work wonders and you could then get the drivel going to the muppet room and the rest going to the relevant areas

anyway, who's been cracking the whip then? all of a sudden you lot are busier than one legged men in an arse kicking compitition
