Default Cheapest decent video camera?

I want to buy a video camera, something with a decent pic, better than some mobile phone video, but just computer quality, not feature film spec!

Something that works well in low light etc is prob handy too.

Ive no fucking idea whats around or whats good, so anyone with a clue, please advise

TBH you pay for what you get, if you but cheap its shit, more you pay better it gets.

i dont think there is really any cheap yet good ones other than a random special offer somewhere.

i would only go for a dedicated video camera if you are intending doing LOTS of video work - if only a bit now and then, i would go for a bridge stills camera with video function. if you do go for a proper video camera, i would get one with a HDD in it for easy storage and transfer to pc.

if it's car related, i would go for a bullet cam and a HDD recorder. bullet cams work surprisingly well at low light

my fuji s6500fd does very good video and unlike a lot of other stills cameras that do video, the zoom lense can be used during filming.

Stavros.
Jessops Camera shop, just down the road from the future office,
between McDonalds and the link. they got the same video camera as i got for 149quid now. (I too, didnt wanna spend too much as will get knocked about etc in cars)

http://www.jessops.com/Store/s50426/...s.aspx?&comp=y

its a digital8 camera, so basically works on tape, but with digital quality.

easy to record to PC for editing too.

When you look at the specifications, make sure the camera copes with "0 LUX". This refers to the lowest amount of light a camera will operate in, with some efficiency.

Then you can make your own episodes of Most Haunted, which I bet is what you're after.

how?

TBH i wanted something that just goes straight on to a memory card so i can sling the card in to the PC and job done.

But yeah, 150quid i dont mind spending if its decent enough.

As Paddy said, I need to get one quickly to film my own Most Haunted episodes

tae based like that £150 one is pants for the reason that i said above. you have to have a video capture card on the pc, then play back the tape in real time, convert to smaller file etc.

HDD or memory card based one is much simpler and quicker - but more expensive

you need to say what you want to do with the camera, and the output from it to give me some more guidance

if it's just to put up on youtube or t'interweb any old shit will do. if it's to make a decent dvd for playback on big telly, you need something better, and good video of any length requires massive file sizes too big for memory cards

I know you want memory card, but have a look here

http://www.cameracentrecardiff.co.uk/

I bought a Sony Handycam DCR-HC46 for £150. Its a MiniDV unit. All kit is ex demo, but they have some bloody bargains. I got mine next day aswell. Really helpful on the phone, might be worthwhile calling them as stock changes all the time.

Cheers

Matt

collierm that's the same shit as with a digital 8 though, you have to play back the tape in real time to capture it, edit it, compress it etc

i have already suggested using a still camera with video function or a bullet cam with HD recorder right at the start of the thread - isn't that input enough?

There is this that records direct to DVD (possible the microphone will pick up whine from the spinning disk when recording).

http://www.cameracentrecardiff.co.uk...roducts_id=380

These record to SD card

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/3851...fichetechnique
http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/5499...ctional-c.html

All are basic camera's, but should do what you want.

too vague steve. decent quality when viewed where? BIG HDTV? internet window?

good quality is easy, but not cheap.

storage on memory card is easy for cheap, but quality will be worse.

Just good enough to view on a decent sized computer monitor.

this sort of quality (at full screen) is fine by me, but better would be better, of course

those ones that collierm posted a link to would probably be fine for what you want most of the time, but not sure of their performance in low light

I love all that shit. But remember you need a proper spiritualist medium and they have to be gay.

Me and a mate got one of these cheap [similar spec but not a branded name] to go to Thailand, just to post shit on the internet.

And to be perfectly honest they are complete bob.

If you moved quickly at all, the picture becomes so pixelated it looks like a crime watch reconstruction.

Which is pointless when you are wanting to prove to people that the thing you filmed you mate slapping one into had boy and girl bits, when the boy bits are moving too quickly to be made out on camera

Yeah fuck that, its only uses is filming highly illegal driving to put on Youtube so i get sent to prison as its evidence, and for American Psycho spec DIY porn, so if it cant handle moving stuff, its pointless

then you're gonna need to pay a bit more steve. i don't know what your definition of cheap is, but my last camcorder was a grand?

personally, if going for a camcorder i would never have anything other than a sony because i have had them before and think that thay're top notch.

i would be going for a hard drive bi def bugger, but i guess you don't want to spend that much, but how about something like this?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-DCR-SR3...4620917&sr=1-3

have not tried it personally, but it looks a good spec. for the price of less than £300, which is cheap in my book

That looks cracking value! Saves to hard drive in 640 x 480 which is perfect for posting on the web

And it has the 0 LUX Sony Night shot [which is actually pretty good] for you to go and pick up some orbs!
