have you checked the tri-bearing on the ends of the driveshafts.

most probably that.

checked both all seam fine, was thinking the cup may be worn.
only happens when the weight transfers onto the passenger side, in a straight line or on left hand bends nothing happens
its not bad driving normal but the problem showed up on donnington last week

Ian,

just check the shaft to see if it has any marks on it as when the weight is on it it may be hitting the edge of the cup,i noticed this on one of my cars.

will do
going to change the cv joint in case the actual cup is damaged

daft question but are the passenger & drivers side shafts different lengths?
was thinking if the shaft was to long it would be locking up in the cv joint.
I had a simalar problem when I had a bent hub carrier when I first got the car & tried to correct the negative camer with adjustable tca's. all it did was force the shaft too far into the inner cv joint causing a vibration

if the cup was damaged/worn etc... then it would squirt grease out.

iirc, the shafts are the same lenght, but its the cups that they sit in make one side longer.

thats why i said to check that the shaft is not catching on the side of the cup.

check the spring is ok inside the cup too.

Here's one for you to check!!

See how close the exhaust downpipe is to the chassis/transmission tunnel - sort of opposite the front prop!! It may be touching which makes an awful noise!!

I have a pic somewhere......

got to be the passenger side as the diff is in the way on the drivers side.

iirc, they may be the same size, but you will see when you do it.

i have a set in the garage but its too late to dig them out and look.

both are identical apart from the drivers side has extra bit for a circlip to hold it in the diff.

i would go with the exhaust hitting the chassis leg

the drivers side shaft has the circlip groove for inside the diff (you dont need it!!) - but I though they were the same length anyway?

well the bit with the circlip bit on is the cup,and these can be swapped over etc...

there are different sizes/lenghts of cups so it depends whats fitted to his.

had the longer driveshaft fitted to the passenfer side & it was locking up in the cup when compressed under hard conering. have heard some people fitting the xr4x4 shaft when the car is lowered to help stop them pulling out but I've fitted adjustable tcas so there isn't a problem with camber
