Had some bad news today....
My 25 year old brother found out today in hospital that he's going deaf
Something to do with the drum being damaged, and non-repairable
How shit is that!? I'm gutted

Sorry to hear mate. One of my mates is deaf in one ear, which im assuming its only the one ear on your bro. Doesnt bother him at all, and no one ever notices unless in a club with loud music

Bad news Radders... Any idea what caused it? I know its nothing to do with your bro but I always wonder about people who go round with their ipods on full wack for 8 hours a day dont become deaf!
He hasnt a clue what has caused it, Hes not into his music as much as me, and its always been my fear of losing my own hearing
I havent spoke to him, Im only going on what my mums passed onto me, Will find out more later. I just hope its one ear

shit news mate
is it just deafness or is there another other damage?
ears do your sense of balance and pressure as well so if the drum is a goner there might be other complications

Not good news, even if it is just one ear
Been one of my major worries over the years with the sheer ammount of abuse my ears have taken, as I did a LOT of gigging when I younger - I used to have two 5ft (4x 12" cones) monitors either side of drum kit as personal monitors and towards the end of my gigging "career" I used to have them so loud they would clip and cut out!
I'm actually very surprised my ears didn't completely give up! I think I have about a 5% hearing loss in terms of volume, some restriction on the high pitched frequencies I can hear (dunno what it is in hertz, just know I can't hear some that most others can) and a mild form of tinitus
But at least I CAN still hear - and if it is only one ear your bro is going deaf in, he will soon think this way aswell. He'll be bummed out for sure at first, but after a while he'll soon lean to the "at least i'm not completely deaf" side of things

Sorry to hear that dude. My niece was born virtually deaf in both ears and she had a cochlear implant done after 12months on one side. Another year later and she seems to be fine, obviously a little bit behind than other kids her age but she's picking up noises, reacting etc, even starting to talk!!
Could be something your bro could look into if it is affecting both ears?

Rads, im nearly deaf in my left ear, with bad tinnitus. It is a bit of a pain but nothing too bad. the tinnitus gives me more hassle especially when im tired. Maybe dancing for hours by big speakers and not wearing ear plugs when i was on the range wasnt a good idea after all !!!!

Sad news that. I've had a 20% hearing loss since birth myself so can partly imagine how he is feeling. Hopefully it is only limited to one ear and that he can adapt to the change. I hadn't realised until I was 15 or so that I lip readed what people were saying to help me hear / understand what they were saying.
Doesn't always work though as I can sometimes get the wrong end of the stick and go off on a tangent with like sounding words
Most workplaces will help out with disability adaptations such as phones with adjustable volume / volume ampifier to assist him if need be.
I know you will but give him as much help as you can. Hope things work out for him
