It's not illegal yet, but I saw a news clip where the gov were considering the banning of smoking whilst driving!!

and i dont think its half as bad as being on the phone.

 

You can't drink or eat, so why should you be able to smoke

 

It's in the new Highway Code that you can't smoke.... but it's a grey area as it says.... you 'could' be fined and not you 'will' be fined. It's dependent on how you're driving, if the police think you're driving without due care and attention because of smoking, you will be done.

I didn't used to smoke in my car when was a smoker anyway, and certainly wouldn't have when I was driving, in fact I can count on one hand the amount of times when I ate or drank at the wheel over the last 13 years, I didn't use my phone much whilst driving before the ban either, and even though could 'touch text' mostly avoided texting whilst driving too

At least some people might actually understand and accept the fact that it can be dangerous.

 

they should make more of a thing about encouraging drivers to use mirrors, leave stopping distances, think ahead, not pull out in front of vehicles etc etc i.e. the real things that cause accidents instead of blaming it on fags/mobiles/speeding.

most joe public motorists arent that arsed about being aware on the road cos they know if they have a crash the insurance will pay for it, they get a courtesy car and they probably get a new car out of it.

this smoking thing is bolox, get blacked out windows then they cant see ya doing it haha

 

only fair, as long as they ban eating, and drinking too, and talking to the person next to you, or any other passenger, looking at the sat-nav. and ban breathing in the car too.

loadsa people i know have had dropped fags in their car or had them blow back into the back seat, melted right thru upholstery and carpets etc and never caught fire.

there was a thing on TV a while ago where the fire brigade showed how difficult it is to get a car interior to ignite aswell.

Its not really about whether it causes a fire or not. What causes the accidents is people panicing when they drop a fag and taking their eyes off the road and/or their hands of the wheel, whilst trying to retrieve it.

Yes many things also cause accidents, and its a proven fact that many accidents are caused through smoking and/or dropping them in the car.

Soon changing the radio volume/station/cd will be against the law as it distracts you.

And how can it be a offence punishable by points and a fine to use your mobile when a police officer can still use his radio in the car, its just as bad as a mobile in my opinion.
