Default Turbo Failure at Ford Fair

Turbo fell out through my tail pipe

I thought i was seeing things when after loosing all boost pressure on track and returning to pit to see what was up i noticed the 90 degree elbow was loose. I tightened it up and reved the car - black smoke belowed out and then this rolled out the exhaust....

My Ford Fair days were numbered Grrrr got a good session on track though before that happened.

THE mysterious turbo part delivered via Magnex Exhausts systems.

i wondert what that could be???

you did some good work there! should be fun! you gonna re-build the turbo (if you can) or just go straight for a replacement?

I was in more shock than anything and thankfull that the rest of the turbo stayed put

Spoke with a guy (didnt catch his name) from Universal Turbos and he was as shocked as we are, should be a direct replacment exhaust side housing and shaft.

Send it off tomorrow and see if if they can put a reason behind it.

Blessing it fell out when it did when the car was parked up. It was not cherry red but as my mate picked it up of the floor i could tell by his screams it was still pretty Hot

It could have made a right ole mess of someones car if that had come out on track at speed

Its kinda wierd though, just want to get the bottom of what casued it, oil starvation

who knows - take it off tonight and see whats what.

All i know is i was pushing it hard trying to keep with the Blue xr4x4 what ever power that was running id love to know.

Starting to gain on him then he would pull away. Good session though

He was almost keeping with the 3 door Reyland later in the day. must be turbo'd or supercharged.

Well took the turbo off tonight to send away for the verdict - altough i know its fucked need to know what may have caused it.

Im defo getting egr bung fitted to elbow to see what sort of temps are being flowed.

The blades have mangaged to embed themselves in the casing and one section has split the casting open and sliced through it like butter.

Thankfully the compressor side although wobbly has not broken down and there are know traces of oil or debris in the inlet side. Thank god.

I tool the Bailey Pre -oil filter off thinking maybe perhaos a blockage starved the bearings of oil but all was well in there.

So its got to be either oil starvation or exhaust gases to hot. Enigine is set up on emerald managment and the afr's are safe.

Here you can see where the blades have cut through the casing looks wicked in the flesh, picture doesnt do it any favours.

Just the man. I was thinking about that yesterday.....

The plan is to get car running for the remainder of this month and next, and then im stripping it to make way for the zetec T, so if you have it still then Sunny, il take it from you.

Need to make use of the car for this season as - ive chucked to much at it last month on tank cage etc for it to just sit in the garage from now until spring.

Second it rolled out the exhaust i was kinda laughin in amazement but proper gutted i was just about to queue up for my 2nd session.

I limped the ole smoker back to the Fast Ford stand and left it on show there for the remainder of the day, until 4 when i left, got towed to nearset esso to call AA, cheers 4 hours later they arrive.

Its one of those things you have to take the rough with the smooth.

I dont think they will cover it under warrenty but in my defence the car is set up within all tolerences and is kept maintained to the best standard.

You would think with the symptons and reactions of people on here that due to it not being a comman every day occurence maybe it was faulty.

Either way i just want to find out the cause so i can either fix the fault or make sure it never happens again.

Mind you im looking at Gt38 at the mo these inferior t3's
