As std were the heads fitted to RS500s modified ?
i.e ported diffo or used diffo cams/ valve spec from a std 2wd head?
If so can ya tell by casting numbers or are there other dead give aways?

 

the rs500 head is very nearly the same as normal 2wd saff head except the rs500 head has dowels thats about it

Bronse valve guides sure there was some porting work done

 

as far as I know was just same casting as 2wd sapphire head, as was an improved design that was put into production on the sapphire, only difference is the dowels to locate the inlet manifold.

to be honest i have never heard of any rs500 having bigger inlets or porting done to them from leaving the factory, all cossie heads have got bronse valve guids and soliduim filled valves

they are just a 3 bolt 2wd saff head with the dowels on them

read fast ford tells you every thing different from a normal one inclueding the larger inlet ports

 

They wernt though cast larger though, they were machined to match the inlet plenum gasket after casting as were the throats of the plenum.

 

The 500 head had larger inlette ports , done by cosworth to homologate the cars for racing .
Only the mouth was ported tho , not all the way down

And dowel holes were also drilled , again for homologation

The homologation papers quite clearly state what was done and what wasnt done on the 500 road cars

An on close inspection of my head / engine when it was in loads of bits before its rebuild , i checked my head / engine and it was exactly how the papers stated

 

so who is right then.

Like a number plate denotes the model of the car... fookin morons..


Any 500 owner wanna buy a plate.. so when someone says.. its it a real one you can say 'Yes.. cant you read the plate !!'
