Default How far would you travel for a car?????????

I left mine this morning, in Sunny Liverpool at midday and just got home now, so 12hours on the move. I went to London to buy a £500 Mondeo, ST24 rsap saloon, with 90k. I was told the gearbox is on its way out and needs some tlc, so spent 7 hours travellin there worryin if i was wastin my time. Got there and it needs a pressure plate, not a box and needs a tiny dent removing from front wing, Everythin works, even the air con is freezing, exceptionally clean too. So off I hoped on the motorway at Harlow, M11, M25, M1, then M6... 240 miles later in home, never missed a beat and only cost £25 in fuel..... So to sum up when thinkin about distance, I paid £20 for bus/train ticket and £25 fuel for a bargain car that has many years left in it...... So its worth travellin the length of the country for the right car IMO, Christ i did it for a £500 mondeo...

for the right car, no distance is to far.

Try doing a 7 hour round trip to see a fiesta that is 1 million miles away from what I was told on the phone

Now thats a pisser

I would travel anywhere if the car was what I was after, afterall, you only have to go there once!
I went 400 miles for my Cav, and on Wednesday went 300 for my new Audi

For my 205 I did this trip....

Picked up the van from Birmingham 5.00pm, drove to Chesterfield J29 M1 to Tims to get his trailer.
Drove to 20 mins past Dartford tunnel crossing after being stuck in traffic as the M20 was closed- got to the guys place at 11.45.

Drove back through London as the M25 was closed or somet...

Got home 4.45am. so about 12 hours.

The next day I got up fairly early and took the Car up to NMS - then I had to take the trailer back to Tims and the van back to the place at Birmingham total was about another 5 hours or so...

Was it worth it- to be honest after all the fucking about with the car and getting it mot'd tax'd insured and all the work the NMS guys did- not in the slightest.

I prob wont do anything like it again

I would travel near enough anywhere for the right price, you only have to go and get it once and then its done. Can be worth it IMO...

Sticky recommended me my Series 1! Anyone that's seen the car knows it was MORE than worth the 10 hour round trip to get it!

I did the journey in a LWB Transit and Trailer too!

But if you can be sure it's the right car, i'd travel anywhere if I wanted it!

In 2002 I saw a mk4 Cabby turbo for sale on RSOC.
Emailed him and was told it was in good nick and would be worth the trip.
it was 320miles from my home to the car.
I stay in Kilwinning, Scotland, and travelled to Birmingham for the car

So off I go with a mate at 5 or 6 in the morning.
We got there and the car was as described, so I paid the money for it £850

I couldnt get a trailer so I used a fixed tow pole and hooked it onto my VTS that I had.
Onto the motorway and headed north.
As I was needing to piss, I pulled into Charnock Richard and was greeted by the traffics, who noticed there was no tax on the cabby.
Told them that i didnt realise it ws illeagal to tow with 4 wheels on the ground without insurance etc.
the cops were brand new and said that it could not leave until it was on a dolly or trailer
Phoned a mate who got a trailer and came down to get me, he arrived at 10pm.
managed to get within 15 miles of my house when we were stopped again by cops.
They were brand new as well, they were curious as there was a cabby on a trailer at 0130, explained to them and showed the V5 to them .

It cost me no more than £1100 to buy the car and get it taxed and mot'd and I used it for the summer in 2003.
it is now sitting in my garage wondering when it will be out on the road again as the wife would rather spend the money on the house for some reason than let me get the car sorted up .

For the right car i would travel mile, but i would have to know its nice as most people lie on the phone.

£500 mondeo i wouldnt have gone that far for i must admit, as knowing my luck the box would have been hanging out.

The good thing about the car, was the owner was up front, honest and sound.. He even said the car had'nt been started in 1 week, so would be freezing cold when I arrived, you know then, that there genuine and not hidin any problems.. Just off outside with the shampoo and polish shortly....

id be wary about travelling that far to see a shitter, as once you've spent the money and time travelling, that could have gone towards paying a bit more for one locally

it didnt look like a shitter in the pics/description, and the chassis number was completely different on the logbook to the car

i travelled a 590 mile trip to go and buy my escos, had 3 to view that day so probably would have travelled more if i hadnt bought the first one i looked at. never regret it for one day not looking at the other 2 before making my mind up.

I would travel anywhere for the right one. The guy who bought my esc cos lives on an island off north Scotland. He flew to Glasgow, hired a car to drive to Telford, I picked him up and drove him 40 miles to mine and he drove the esc cos all the way home

I travelled from norwich area to plymouth for a £200 astra, cost me £69 train fare there, and nearly a blown head gasket/engine back as he "forget" to mention water pump was shagged.

I did 550 in a day to collect my Mustang.

Wokingham to North Wales.

Not exactly a buyers market, but don't regret it for a minute.

even if the wife didn't speak to me for a month.
