Default Converting N/A engined saph?

Don't seem to be getting much help in the tech section, so can anyone here help me?

Just got a J plate saph, 1.6 pinto in it. Engine is wheezy and shite, well underpowered, but the rest of the car is in belting condition. Got it nice and cheap, so just want to swap the lump over for something with a bit more grunt.

I don't want to go down the cossie route, or sell it and buy something else before anyone suggests them options.

Will the 2.9V6 bolt straight up to the pinto gearbox? Or am I going to need the 2.9 box, all front and rear suspension and prop shaft? Would prefer it RWD.

Also, is the 2.0DOHC engine a good option?

my next project may be similar

bog standard looking sierra with 24V and welded diff

2.0 DOHC is not too bad in terms of power - it has a good torque spread. only had one, and it had the usual head gasket problem

your easiest option is a 2.0i pinto - with a head skim and port and a high torque cam they're a reasonable engine and cheap

for a 24v you need the 24v loom a 2.8 type 9 will hold the power for a bit and a xr4i prop

if its a carbed pinto then you will need to put a efi tank in and re plumb the piping.

if its a DOHC then the fuel lines are on the other side so some plumbing is needed

Xe makes more sense and costs no more than such a pinto!

OK guys, found an XR4x4 in the local breakers, thinking I might just dump the whole running gear in the saff.

What do I need? Basically, everything from the underneath?

Engine
Subframe
Box
Prop
Rear beam
Front and rear susp and driveshafts
Loom
Tank
Fuel lines

Anything else??

clutch cable, speedo cable, accelerator cable

possibly some of the brake lines. will you keep the abs of the 4x4? if so, you will need the abs sub loom and ecu

not to mention the steering intermidiate shaft and rack as well as being able to splice in the vss amongst other things

might also need to make a dent in the floor to put the front prop into as well as making the 4wd gearbox mounts as well if you ain't got them
