Default Drilling the airbox!

I'm having a discussion on another forum and am being told that drilling the airbox won't improve things.

I know Performance Ford did testing on this a while back and did find improvements but I need a techy answer as this guys being a bit of a plum

one of my lads did it on a 1.6 escort made no noticable difference other than the noise was slightly louder.

I had a K&N cone filter on my series 2.Just changed it for this.

Looks alot neater in the engine bay aswell.
Iv,e just had it set up at JAMSPORT where the test for all these induction kits in the mag took place and they recomended the driled airbox.

I drilled the airbox in the micra yesterday and hasnt really made any difference to performance apart from change the noise when the butterfly is open about more than half way. Just going to run a front air feed to it and leave it as it is.

At least it has gotten rid of that stupid whining noise that engine makes at high rpms

ok .. get the airbox .. take the top cover off..
totally remove the front part of the top cover ( bit with the hole in it).. job sorted not drilling required ......

had mine like that and it worked perfectly running at 22psi on the track much neater and stops loads of hot air entering the air filter

had an act guage in the air flow from the metering head and the temps were alot lower with the box than the cone

hot air = less air

sooooo

if your drilled box sucks in less hot air than the std setup you will make more power

had both my series 2's like t28's above.done mine fine for years.the k+n cone my first one had made the car dive between gear changes and generally drive shit.

i have the front and bottom of my saff box drilled to fuck too so much better and more responsive than the cones.and harvey said the cone was making it lose power too
