Default gt 30 smoking

When i bought my car i was told that the GT 30's were meant to use oil, does anyone know if this is true?
If the turbo was using oil would i see it in the boost pipes, like you would if a normal T3 was using oil?

if the turbo was passing oil wouldnt it be puffing or belching blue smoke. i cant imagine any turbo is meant to do this but in reality most will to some extent.
