Default Gear change probs on RST

I have just bought a 1990 cabby with RS turbo transplant.
having a couple of probs with the gearbox, the bite point is right at the bottom making selection of reverse a nightmare unless I switch off select and re start, when I re start it with it in gear and no handbrake or brake it does not drag back on the gear it is just selecting. I hev just changed the clutch ratchit which was nothing wrong with it.
The previouse owner said that the clutch was changed in october but when in 3rd and 4th up a slight hill with lots of load on it slips?
any idaes?
my thought are sticky (dirty shaft) or clutch plate back to front or maybe crank seal gone soaking it with oil????
would like other options??

maybe the guy lied. either that or he really really abused it before selling it to you. my guess is though it either isn't a new one or its got contaminated. one other thing though, you didn't mention the stage of tune the engine is at and how much power and torque it's pumping out. may just be the case that the clutch has been munched due to the engines torque output.

Is there any free play in the pedal? If the self adjuster isnt working it will give the symptoms you described.

Failing that the diaphram springs on the pressure plate may be breaking down, as it definately sounds like a disengagement problem.

The car has a print out from PTS at 186bhp and 224 lb ft torque. all he said was its uprated?
The ratchit that came out was a white one and that is what I put back, I changed the black adjuster aswell even though there was no signs of wear on any of the bits I removed.
there is no play in pedal (only a bit side to side).
going to source a clutch this week and have a go at it this weekend.
what clutch would be recommended for that power?

The quadrant should allow for that.

And if not, the freeplay will be evident in the pedal.

new clutch fitted and the gear change is now fine due to wrong clutch being in there, dont know what but it was smaller.
still slips in 3rd and 4th. only put standard one in just to see if that was the problem but think nearly 190brake and 225lb of torque is too much for standard clutch?? but I thought I would at least get a weeks worth out of it before it started to slip??

Trist genuine Ford clutch should cope with your power, if you get an uprated one buy an AP, its not worth messing about with other so-called uprated cutches.
its worth doing the mk6 padal mod, only costs about £25 & is much easier to fit than a standard one.

Mk6 pedal mods are proving extremely unreliable atm.

If you fit an uprated clutch, AP themselves have said if the standard pedal releases the clutch ok then the mod is un-necessary, so make it the last job you do
