Default M.O.T Failure HELP! UPDATE

Hi all, just took the motor to Fords to be MOT'd. They picked up on a few strange parts that i need.

Offside front drag link end ball joint has exceesevie play
Front colum coupling assembly steering pivot point has excesive play.

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT THESE ARE AS I HAVENT GOT A CLUE

he said my steering colum is an aftermarket one, and not a ford, so the spindal would not fit with the above.

PLEASE HELP, the bloke ion the ford garage was a twat and didnt know what he was on about! he reckons i cant just get the above without getting a whole new steering rack, that must be blollox surely.

cheers

luke

He's probably on about the donut bush in the steering column mate.

The column is joined to the rack by a rubber donut bush. They're like rocking horse crap - I found one by chance unused on ebay. When these perish the steering wanders and is affected more by adverse cambers and tramlines. Had this on mine - the guy that did mine for me said it's a half hour job, if that.

The other one - does he mean track rod ends?

If you think he is trying it on Luke...just go somewhere and get another MOT done...........does the car feel unstable to you?? or have any steering problems??

Go to your local council bus depo, they'll tell you whats wrong without trying to flog you off with expensive parts and labour.

sorry to go on about it... but he must have been able to see the chunk missing... so go there out of the blue and ask him to show you the bush... (not his bush... that could get embarrasing) dont arrange to meet them, coz if they are leading you on, then they will just cut a bit out...

he must have been able to see it while it was on the car to tell you there is a chunk missing... so he must be able to show you... if he is attempting to lead you on then call his bluff and ask to see the problems, then get a camera out and take some photo's, if he asks why, tell him your mechanic wants to see the problems as he is unsure of what has been written down or something... you dont have to use the photo's... just make up some bollock, like you have an idea of what you are on about, or atleast you know someone that does...

I do. The MOT guy at our local Ford knows what an Escort Cosworth is, and he knows I work on my car as well. After he’s done his checks, he invites me into the MOT area to point out any issues, how ever small they are. They always help with parts for my Escort, and I get discount as well. They even print off schematics for me to take away to diagnose problems.

get someone to sit in your car and wobble the steering wheel, then go underneath and see where the play is.

It's the Ford garage in Billingshurst, West Sussex. Also can book the car in for an allotted time which is great. No waiting in a queue.

just a bit of an update, after speaking to the bloke at the ford garage all day long, trying to figure out what part i actually needed

i took it away to get a second opinion. The second garagre said the wheel wobble wouldnt of even beed added as an advisory note so it would of shot passed its MOT!!

SO its all booked in for this wed, i did not need the 309 steering rack, just a 40quid part so i reported to stealing twats to VOSA after he threatened me on the phone! and that was the workshop manager!

Anyway i hope the FORD dealer Malcom Waite get what they deserve the stealing lying excuse for a garage.

Rant over

Luke

get some pics up of the offending prats (and the bits they said needed sorting ) so we know who not to avoid if they are coming towards us out of control in a shopping trolley
