Default Dipped beam has stopped working

Side lights, dim dip and main beam all work. All fuses appear to be O.K.
Twist switch to side lights and they come on, turn on ignition and I get dim dip. Turn switch to dip beam and the dim dip goes off, no dip beam, just side lights, move stalk forward and get main beam. I can hear relays clicking and have swaped the same style ones around but it has made no difference.
This is on a mk6 escort.
Any one have an idea as to where I should look.
Thanks

I had this prob on my S2 escort so may be the same. The relay for dipped beam had become corroded. 20 seconds with a bit of sandpaper and good as new. On the S2 its a white one at the back right of the fuse box (as you look at the car.)

Hope this helps.

Nope. Check the multifunction switch for an output from the dip-beam wiring.

It is a common problem on these switches and cannot easily be rectified. Your best bet would be to substitute for another switch to confirm, then replace with a new one. Cost is approx. £65 from Ford, depending on spec of car and switch options (i.e. variable wiper, rear wiper, etc..).
