Does it go on to reach 210mph chum, quarter miles are a specialist event & require a car set up for it. Mine would run 10's if I compromised other asspects of the car. I prefer 60-180 in 13.7 for road use, rather than a fast quarter, its horses for courses.
Remember a 10.9 @ 128 beats 11.0 @ 148 but the second car is actually far quicker, quarters are a very funny event about grip not outright performance.

 

maybe up it to 11s, then i fit in , 11.5 @254kmph

 

Rod what you dont seem to get is that most people couldnt give a flying fuck about doing 210mph. Now you might not care about doing 1/4 miles but how can you say your car would do a 10 when its never done it?

As does a car to reach 210mph, only difference is more people try to have quick Qtr mile times and cars set up for track days than they do for breaking 200mph.

Rod, as much as your a real nice guy in the flesh - not everyone wants there aspect of the cossie world put up for comparism to what you have achieved.
Dont get me wrong, what you have done is great for the cossie and tuning world but many people have a different interest for there car - and sometimes its irritating as all you do is go on about your own achievements and dont gve any constructive input to were the origonal question started.

tbh, you might as well have a car that cant break the speed limit what with all the speed camera's and idiots who cant drive when slightly above, or just doing the speed limit.

These days im only really impressed by either absolute mentalist ones (ie WAY ahead of anything else), or all rounders.

Norris Evo, Roger Clark Scooby, Zen Scooby, Rocket Ronnie, Fensport Corolla/Celica, etc etc.

All the above cars can go round the track fucking fast, and then with no changes to their suspension setup from track, running track tyres, etc etc, they can all run 10s or even 9s, and top 200mph at Brunters/Elvington.

Rods in a league of his own really, as I dont know of another car in the UK that is built for top speed alone.

IMO evryone breaks the speed limet just how silly they are and how dagerous is down to then 210 on a clear motorway that can stop in ???metters
or 90 in a shitter with doggy brakes undertaking everone on a busy duel carragway !!

rod been driving for years and most fatals are teenagers !!

 

On the road Rods car will run a quicker quarter than most 10 seconds cars will anyway to be honest.

IMHO the best judge of what makes a fast car is terminal on the quarter.

1.6 60ft's at the pod on mega sticky tyres are a great achievement but have NOTHING to do with real world performance.


I also dont think that top speed runs particuarly have a lot to do with real world performance as they are numbers I simply would NEVER do on a UK road personally.



But quater terminal is genuinely interesting to me with regards to road car performance.

Realistically Martins old escort was probably the best allround Cosworth.

10.6 iirc ? 196 mph ? and obviously found its way round any track quite well.

I dont think anything has really come close to that as yet although his new car should be even better.

There are plenty of other cosworth powered cars though that are equally impressive, not sure if anything else has done 190 + yet

 

JB - I am chilled mate Im just tiring of all this 210mph stuff.

im sure we could all brag about doing x and y, but most of us choose not to.

 

this was on e of the topics of dicussion the other night, how one car can't really be good at both top end and the 1/4 mile
which then went on to what contitues a road car
and then what consitutes road fuel
and then what consitutes keeping within the freindly spirit of driving to a show on pump fuel and road leagal tyres, giving it some beans and then driving the same car home again with nothing other than the boost turned down and the tank being empty

i'm sure osmeone will be able to get a 10 second sierra without spending too much money on it if you have the right gears for it
7 speed with a 1:1 7th so that once the engine is in the power band, it's only going to be dropping 1000 revs per gear change and will be banging off the limiter in 7th just at the right time it crosses the line
but then agian, will that make a nice car to be able to drive to the shops and putting child seats in the back and all that

Its not that easy to get a Sierra in the 10's

TiB's been trying for a while and I wouldn't say his car was a cheap build

Kevs and Martins old cars ran 10's but they cost a serious amount to build.

BTW a 7 speed FFD is going to cost you a small fortune alone and thats not going to make any car run a 10 out of the box

 

Erm, but you can start most cossies with a key in the ignition, you don't need to bump start them because the owner removed the starter motor to save weight

What is Andy's fastest time btw?

 

well realistically, 1/4mile is a good indication of a cars performance,

its a better judge than a cars 0-60 time
