Default Mechanical Water Temp Boss mounting.....

As above would it be ok to weld the boss for my mechanical water temp gauge directly onto the side of the rad somewhere? If so does it make any difference where on the rad it goes?

Cheers
Chris

you want it engine side of the thermostat ideally chris, otherwise it won't read much until the thermostat opens.

if you're only interested in the hot temperature, then after the thermostat would be ok. in the rad would be fine if you put it right near the inlet hose which will be the same temperature as the outlet of the thermostat once it's opened fully. the further away from the inlet hose that you go either down or across will see the temperature dropping quickly

Ok so it may be ok to put in the rad right near the top hose then?! I'm not overly overly fussed about a 100% accurate reading, I just want to get an idea as to when its about to overheat

that'll do fine for that. you'll get to know what normal is, and then see when it gets hotter than that - unless it verheats because the thermostat is not opening

Sorry i ain't got a photo

It is a very nice bit of kit with a threaded bose for your temp sender, you just cut the hose and put it in the middle (you also have to cut the length of the hose down to fit)

It is very well made and was about £25 i think.

i found best on a CVH is the lower hose on the stat housing.

Put it at least 50mm from stat, and that stops heat soak.
