battery light

Default battery light

my dashboard battery warning light has a faint glow , strangely when i press brake it lights up fully ! also rev counter drops 100 rpm and oil pressure gauge drops . any body got any ideas where to start looking for the fault ?? am lost

Diode pack in alternator is buggered, unless you have a humungous drain on it such as ICE ?
If not ice then new alternator will cure it or just change the diode pack.

as above, mine did that for about 600 miles then the smoke came out and wnet completely, an exchange alternator was about Ł80

remember to remove the pulley and the heat shield off yours before sending it in as the exhange ones DONT have them fitted as std.

thanks for the replys, the thing is , ive just put new alternator on car about 4 months ago , brand new from ford.
could it be a bad earth ? why should it glow when brakes pressed?

The brake light system draws another 50watts of power so when that happens with it already being in short supply, the lamp brightens up and the voltage dip makes the gauges go up and down.
