Default PC online gaming problem - help needed!

Basically I'm trying to play Command & conquer Generals online, however it's running really strange (really slow & jerky, stops & starts) when I join a battle. I've got Sky broadband, so didn't think this would be a problem. There's a box on the options menu that says something about connection speed (100ms, 200ms etc etc) but I don't really understand what this means?

Any help appreciated!

Generals does that on certain maps even on LAN games, try a different map.

Cheers guys. I've changed the ping rate to 100ms, and dropped the resolution to medium, but it's still really jerky, and the person I'm trying to battle always surrenders straight away or just disconnects. Fucking game reason I went on broadband was so I could do online gaming

Your doing something wrong somewhere, on 2142 you can pick uk servers, normally there the best performing ones

How do I change the server? I suppose it would help if I understood these things in the first place!

It is funny though, when I asked for help on there earlier I got "FO NOOB!"
Which I presume is; fuck off, new person

Zero hour mate - my favourite!

Gti: I don't know mate! I got it off one of our IT guys at work, I can tell you that I'm running Sky's pikey-free 8MB broadband, but that's about it! I'm not wireless, or anything like that though.

Does it run ok on single player? if it does that tells me that its something to do with your net or settings etc

sounds like you need to open the correct ports on your router or firewall for the game to run better.Sometimes games will run with lots of lag until its opened up.

same as if you D/C from games alot thats sometimes the problem.
