ok. im currently starting my restore but was wondering what attachment is the best for getting the paint down to the bare metal??

BANG! and the paint is gone!

From the job it did on the tiles in my bathroom i'd say it's up to the job

 

WHY is what i would like to know,,,,, bare metal resprays aint REALLY bare metal mate

 

some of them are bare metal

 

cos i wana get it down to the metal so i can find all the defects etc,, im starting with my boot floor 1st tho to see how it goes.. i cant see cillit bang doing it mate.

 

the bodyshop i know of do bare metal resprays and they strip it it all off

some extent they have the shell shan blasted to start from scratch

if you want to get it down to metal then id imagine paint stripper then a orbital sander to finsih it off

dont know about getting into the little bits will have to do it by hand for them

i cudnt think of anything worse then paint stripping a whole car, u will be high as a kite off the fumes, it will be a fucking mess and u will still need to d.a it all down anyway.

 

you wont be high if you wear RPE, it will come off easy with the right stripper

 

Get it media blasted. Got a quote for my xr2 when I had it and it was only about Ł250. For the amount of effort you'd be saved it's more than worth it.

 

i used to use nitromores (sp) and its horrible stuff. even when i was wearing gloves my hands would tingle and u could feel them burning up

using paint stripper on a car shell is that good? cos my mate had he car paint strippered by a CHAV and the insurance company was planning on writing it off because it corrodes the metal or summat daft.. but he managed to get it sorted!

 

nitromors is like piss
get some phenol based stripper that will work wonders
just watch your skin or you may need a skin graft
