T5 box issue

T5 box issue
hi,
mate is building up a cossie, has installed his T5 box today, and can't get 3rd or 4th.
any ideas?
sorry i have no more info ATM

can he go up but not down before it failed ?
can he get it to slide in gear at 3200prm with no clutch ?
did it pop out of gear before
as euan says though, syncros first then selector forks
