XR3 headlamp washers!
Hey!!
I've just bought an early XR3 with headlamp washers but the pipes go to the n/s inner wing along with a wiring connector, but there is nothing to connect them to.
Does anyone have an idea of how they should work? or a picture?
Does it operate from it's own fluid supply? or should the windscreen washer bottle have 2 pumps attached?
Cheers.

Maybe check at ford dealer to see if a bottle is available for the headlight washers, if they never did one then it must go to normal washer bottle.
If the pipes etc going to a different direction I would say it most likely had it's own bottle, is there no sign of extra holes around there where the wires go to ?
I would imagine they are through a relay so they only operate when the headlights are on and the washer for the screen is used ?

Hi Mate,
I've got one of these set ups. The headlamp washer system has a much larger tank than the normal one. I think its well over a gallon. It sits behind the passenger side headlight and is probably 10-11 inches square. It sits in a metal frame.
It has two seperate pumps - a big one for the headlamps and a small one for the windscreen. You should also have a big blue relay in the fuse box to power the lot up. The power supply comes from a bullet connector with a yellow and blank wire going into it. It comes out of the loom right by the wire for the electronic dipstick.
I don't think the tank has been available from Fords for a very long time. If you want to get it working you can probably put it together with bits from other cars. I think GM headlamp washer pumps are identical if you can find a suitable tank.
Cheers

It may be in some versions but not in most of them. Mine's in the fuse box. Would you like another photo or scan lol
I've got a sneaking suspicion that a good proportion of your knowledge is theoretical rather than practical

As i believe we concluded on MSN yesterday, it would appear its the early models which don't posses the times heated rear window that have the relay in the fusebox, and we also know MOST of them had the timed rear window so
