Default 3dr, 240z or Lotus Esprit Turbo, Good Car?

I need another toy again, so I've now narrowed it down to either a another Datsun 240z or an early Lotus Esprit turbo or poss a 3dr Cossie.
I know a bit about Zeds n Cossies but nowt about the early Lotus Esprit turbos?
i.e 88/ 89 era
Are they a reliable car or not? What goes wrong with them, apart from crazed paint lol
Looking at this one its 3rd money, but are they worth the asking?

NO! lol.

Great fun to drive though and the later ones [like that in your link] were designed by that F1 bloke that worked at Maccas

We had a 1990 Turbo in yellow [not my cup of tea] a while ago, and it went like the clappers for the era of car. Bits fell off, mostly interior bits. The electrics were a bit Land Rover [] and worked when they wanted but the engines and gearboxes are good if looked after

It's the same as cossies though mate. They are likely to have either been abused and be fucked, or have been looked after and rebuilt.

Lotus [Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious] were never reknowned for their quality build from new! But if they're still on the road, the likelihood is most of it's been sorted? [you would hope ]

My old man started out on the tools, working for Moss when he was younger and a big part of his job was RE-building and RE-setting up elans that people got in kit form and fucked up on the home builds in the late 60's/early 70's. That's not relevant, but an interesting side story

240Z is an icon!

But, not quite at the same level of performance as a 3 door (all in my very humble opinion of course..)

They sound awesome though

True they are on different playing fields I know
(But then that’s nothing a V8/ liner engine wouldn’t sort out lol)
Assuming I could be arsed to fit one again

I would love a 3dr, but dread the fear factor that goes with them. esp the waking up every morning to see it gone or vandalised because of the car it is.

3 door, classic car and easy to work on/ get bits for

Renault Alpine coupe?
Porsche 968 Club sport?
Delta Integrale 16v?
Mitsibushi starion turbo?
I know I'm blinkered but just think why cossies are so popular, creamed everything in the 80's and 90's, the only reason I can't see for getting one (although I am sure the ford haters on here could fill the rest of the avaliable storage with reasons not to get one ) is that you might fancy somthing a bit different

Might be able to pick up a scruffy or LHD Lotus Carlton for that sorta cash

that brings back some memories I remember about 15ish years ago my older brother bought a lotus I think it was a excel, it was his dream car on the way home the air filter caught fire he burnt his hands to fuck scooping the burning filter at the side of the road.

I only went in it twice the only things I remember about the car was it was ice blue, it caught fire and it had a ripped dash.

Lol lotus is out then (unless someone’s got a 20k miler for the askin )

Appreciate all the ideas of the diffo cars but so far none are cars I haven’t already thought of, or would neva want to own anyway lol.

Anyway it looks like its now down to the 3dr or a Zed
Thing is, where can you find a clean 3dr for the askin?

Unless anything changes between now n next weekend it looks like the Zed has the 8k

Also the Esprit in the add is one of the early ones and isn't intercooled, so the power output quoted is the most it will ever see (and is also probably a little exagerated ).

The charge-cooled ones weren't much better (see my resto thread on ours for full details of what needs modding etc).

https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...232767&start=0

This is now at Pro-Alloy for upgraded radiators (both charge-cooler and water ones). 330bhp / 350lb ft is great fun in one and ours has never really been any probs (but is low miles - 36k on 1994 S4) .
