isn't a sender, just a sender??
OK, lets say you have an electrical oil pressure gauge and you have somehow lost the sender, surely you can just get another one??
Apparently not, according to Burton power. It must be from the manufacturer of the gauge
I would have thought an electrical sender would fit most things, just depends which one as to the boss it will be screwed into??

It may physically fit, but you're forgetting the calibration of the gauge and the signal from the sender..... e.g. one may read 0-150psi which may be from a voltage of 0-5v (for sake of argument) whereas another may be 0-7volts for the same range.....
No mate, it doesn't work like that. THe gauge is looking for a specific signal from the sender, and different gauges look for different signals. Some may well be compatible, but there is no way of telling unless you have both.
The only thing a sender of oil can put out is a VARYING RESISTANCE.
It is a tiny unit containing a PIEZZO CRYSTAL, these work like a sort of squeeze for power, in that the harder they are compressed, the more voltage they will allow to flow, in this case it allows the flow of neutrons.
It is WHOLLY as said by billabong, pressure exerted on the crytstal contained within the unit(sender) equals resistance, and hence guage reading.
The sender contains NO circuitary at all, other than the crystal.

That sounds like you are getting them practically for nothing to me mate
