Default car failed mot - advice needed :(

Yep me car failed its MOT

Failed on:

Rusty floor pan near suspension
Both rear brake cylinders leaking (badly!)
My idicator bulds orange tint had worn so I had white indicators
Screen Washer jet clogged

and rear seat belts......

now my interior is totally stripped out. Any sign or trace of rear seats and belts have been removed - yet he still would fail it because "the car has provision for seat belts so they should be fitted" so he failed it on that too!!

WTF is that all about! Theres no mounting brackets or anything as the belts etc bolt straight into the shell.

Anyone shed any light on it?

I passed the emmisions test though! LOL

If you have COMPLETELY removed all existance of rear belts, can't fail for it due to not being any part of it still left in place

i thought any car after 1986 had to have rear belts fitted, you can get round this by visiting a friendly MOT tester

never heard that before. Anyway.. could you not print out a legal document clearly stating that you don't need your seatbelts? there must be some clause on a document online somewhere.

the only thing left that would have told you there where rear seat belts in it are bolt holes in the chassis

call the MOT enquiree line on 0845 6005977 during office hours and ask them to clarify the position.

Loads of old cars had provision for the belts in the rear, doesn't mean they have to have them!

I have no troubles at mot time as I use one mechanic to do all my work, he never ripps me off and takes my car to the MOT station he uses and gets it passed, they wont pass anything dodgy but wont be an arsy shite to him either.

A decent trustworhty mechanic is worth his wait in gold
