Surely the engine and mainly the gearbox is gonna be under alot of stress pulling 660+kg's??

Sounds a good idea, What about a Turbo'd R1 motor....

im with you radders, i dont rate bike engined cars that much, especially not for the road.
i know they are awesome fun no denying that, but as you say they are tugging a hell of a lot more than they are designed to

Wonder where you got that link from.
I have to admit I'd like to see what it's like in reality. I agree also on the the amount of weight they have to pull as well.
Z Cars mount theres in the back which is pushing when you think about it. Dunno how much of a difference that makes compared to in the front which is pulling.
Also wonder how easy they are to drive due to the torque and amount of revs needed to make progress.
I still reckon a Cooper S supercharged 998cc Mini would be awesome fun.

I helped someone finish an r1 turbo engined kit car once (got it running, usual story of them bolting it together but not knowing how to wire it up and finish it off) it was quick but very undrivable, i spun it several times on a test track just trying to take a corner, the power delivery is very on/off IMO.
