the router/hub is utter shite, bodged up thomson speedtouch firmware.

Port forwarding is a nightmare, the usb interface is useless (it shouldnt be there anyway tbh. network over usb what a stupid idea)

The BT software for security etc is rubbish and hogs resources like hell.

Get Pipex instead, or Zen

I'm on Demon because they are supposedly good but they're shite, will be going back to pipex in the summer (which is what i had for years at my mum's house without a single problem)

Get Pipex or Zen, and a Linksys router (i.e. a proper router, that actually does port forwarding and the most basic of router functions properly)

dont do it fella, ive got a home hub, its shite, drops connection regular, and you never get a constant speed, i get a couple of days of normal speed, followed by a week of dial up speed, ive gave bt the benefit of the doubt and tried to let them sort it, call centre's in different country's, never get to speak to anyone who can understand what im saying, took me 10 weeks to get a new home hub, then when it did arrive, it didnt work at all

I've had no problems with ours either, however my biggest gripe is that they haven't figured out how to forward your normal telephone number to the hub phone yet

I thought I could get rid of one of the phones downstairs but because it is an internet phone it has a wanky 093xxxxxx number and so when someone dials you on your normal number the hub phone won't ring

The first time i had bt broadband installed it was utter shite running through the usb connection it kept dropping connection all the time, i made 60 phone calls and it took a year to get the problem resolved and the main cause of this is that the call centre is in india enough said !, contract ran out decided to change service provider and found out bt were the only service providers in my area so i HAD to go back with them but on a new line, had it now for about 4 months running through the ethernet socket and no dropping in connection and the speed and service has been great so far, hope this helps.

Ignore this last bit - Kev just emailed me this link for a fix and it worked straight away

Here is the fix - nice and simple

Not being able to receive landline calls through the hub phone seems like a really stupid setup. However, over of the Hubbub site it mentioned that will was functionality BT were plannign to add to the web setup before the end of the year. So I got to thinking it might already be in the Thompson guts of the Home Hub. I've seen lots of comments about how the home hub config is accessible via telnet, but this is a command line interface, and not much help. There is a menu function in there answering a few questions but not much. But with a little looking around I found the setting.

At this point I have to state that any attempt to do this is taken at your own risk. I've seen too many comments about home hubs dying when people try to change even simple DHCP settings. These things do seem a little fragile, anyway, the following command will get your landline to ring on the hubs built in DECT base the hub phone uses as well as the phone port you can plug any of your existing kit into.

For the uninitiated, you can open a telnet session to your home hub by clicking on start, run, and typing "TELNET API.HOME" (without quotes)into the run field. This will open a session. Login using username admin, and whatever your admin password is. (admin again is the default)

This will get you the {admin}=> prompt, enter the following command:

voice fxoport config incfxodest=all

Then exit the command prompt by typing "exit"

Grab your mobile and call your landline number!!

I personally don't have my hub phone through yet. Only got the hub a few days ago. I've registered my panasonics to the home hub built in DECT, but any incoming calls only get a ring for a split second. I'm hoping this is a compatibility issue, not an iffy hub. If anyone else has seen this let me know. I will add I got this behavior on incoming calls to my VOIP number before working the above mod out.

DSLMax finds its highest stable speeds over the first week or so, so reset your router a couple of times a day and allow it to re-sync with the exchange so it gets a good range of speeds
