Default Stage one cossie power vs Zetec turbo

What best? Only looking for about 300hp, But im bugged to what power plant I want

Im thinking off fitting a standard Zetec into my RWD S2, then later on, build a fairly reliable ZT or YB!.... but whats the cost of a ZT compared to a full YB?!

Not sure, and its pissing me off ?!

Cars going to weigh about 900/950kg in total, maybe a bit less...

Help me decide please...

the zetec engine isn LIGHTER than the heavy YB,,,, so id say focus engine

but then the BEST engine to fit is the 5 cylinder st engine,,, just cause there also light and have potential adn spare aparts are available

stage 1 cossie power aint gonna be all that though imo

You know what. Until I read that reply. I would have said Zetec all the way. But I think TIFF has hit it on the head 100%.

I think YB has the Bigget WOW factor by far.

WHY Is it though?!

If they both got the same power... whats so good about the YB that makes the ZT shit

stick a focus st170 engine iun and remove the variable valve timing. they have uprated internals over standard and the heads better.

or go the way of the focus rs engine

Rad, you can easily get 300bhp out of a ZT for Ł3k or less, fully mapped too!

or get a pretty much standard YB (maybe some light greens), take to Sir Karl of Norris, hand him around Ł500 iirc and you can have a reliable 300bhp and a nice mid range punch

pound for pound it'll cost about the same for a compete YB and to build a ZT

so imo, be different and do the ZT (parts are FAR cheaper and FAR easier to get too, dont forget that)

Zetec turbo

Dont forget through, the engine would be the wrong way round (in Zetec terms) so may need the sump modding to stop oil starvation

Go with a non turbo engine.

Like the boys at the pod with their high comp 11 second starlets etc.

I thought this was always intended as a cossie s2?

Stick to the original guns Cossie S2 has a nice ring to it.

Nice Karma, Take the good cossie engine with the bad S2 et voila!

chop, whats that bout you needing a new head lol, can get zetec ones for Ł30 or less lol

hell, a complete 2.0l zetec will set you back a good Ł100

plus the ZT will make more torque

Lambchop It was.. but Im getting bored of not having it running So I need to get an engine in.. Hence me wanting to use a 2.0 Zetec for the time being.... But then it would mean I have mounts for a Zetec, and wouldnt want to modify for a YB later?! Could do I guess...

Im not convinced that a standard N/A engine is going to be so much worse to insure than either a customised turbo Zetec motor, or worse still the dreaded "C" word.

YB all the way IMO.

Easy to get 300+ out of them, plenty of easy scope for further power, has much more cool factor than a ZT, and I reckon would be worth more if you wanted to move it on.

i take it its a cost issue? Second hand cossie engine for 1k? Get something better later? Run in stg1 tune it will be plenty quick and easier on the engine?

I am being sensible.

Few grand for an engine, totally bullet proof, economical, endless tuning potential, great throttle response.

Fitting a YB for the same money isnt even vaguely as sensible IMHO!

If I was looking to buy a complete YB really good condition, I would probably be expecting to pay about 3K to be honest.

Aye but my point was buying something on the low end to get him going!

I agree that a decent motor is best but if there is a cost restriction and he wants going quicker then thats the best cossie option!

surely if he wanted a cheap temporary bottom end to mock up with, a 50 quid zetec is hard to beat?

I'll probably go for a 2.0 Zetec, just to get it running! just means more cost in the long run

Radders, you could always go for an LET, 300bhp is easy on those, and you can get a COMPLETE engine for a grand.
And you could use a XE to get it running with first.

jesus man! you're hard work

I was talking about keeping down the cossie route like was originally planned! Saves wanting the yb later.

Yes you're right though a zetec would be lots cheaper
