Tell me the tyres/Wheel size + Rev Limit & I will tell you exactly what it should do.
A correctly geared 550bhp 3 dr Cossie will hit about 183mph within the confines of Brunters. Bruce Reed did 182.6mph there in a 3dr with a Dynoed 541bhp.

8k limiter on 235/40 17's is 195mph.

205/40/17 tyres on a 550bhp 3dr?

What about a 420bhp 2wd Saph with standard box and diff, 7200rpm limiter, and 235/40/17's. Just out of personal interest.

Sorry Kev .

Kev is totally correct I had forgotten his record run. 183mph with standard brakes if I remember correctly , so perhaps 185 is possible in a 3dr with 550bhp. MADAde did 185.5 with 550bhp in a Saff.

Tyres 205/45/17, if you could pull 7500rpm (maybe past peak Power) that would be 181mph.
Tyres 205/40/17, with 7200rpm limit is 168mph.

True, but holding them at that speed and they go WAY beyond their efficiency range and sound like a bag of spanners afterwards, as all the oil gets pumped out of them if held too long at these kind of revs. Obviously they recover again, but it is not an ideal situation for a high revving engine, as you only have to visualise what is happening to the springs with the lifters locking...

I have never had any trouble on my engine Mike....it has always sounded sweet after any held runs on the rollers or top speed runs.

Maybe I am just lucky

It's not just a matter of the lifters, you then need to change the cams to suit this type as well.

The benefit of running solids is that you can run MUCH more aggressive cams, due to removing the compromise you have to have on the lobe shape when you run hydraulic ones.

With the cam timing swung, I could move my peak power up by 500rpm to take it from 7500, to 8000, purely because the cams and solid lifters can do this .

It depends ENTIRELY on where you want the power band to start and end.
