Cool user name

I think he is paying *homage to the greatest compact loudspeaker ever built.

The BBC designed LS3/5a loudspeaker has been in continuous production since 1974 - no other Hi-Fi product has survived that long

Hand built in Somerset, and shipped all over the world - go buy some

PS: not a for sale post

* Homage From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Homage is generally used in modern English to mean any public show of respect to someone to whom one feels indebted.

In this sense, a reference to someone who greatly influenced the person would be an homage. It is typically used to denote a reference in a work of art or literature to another, at least somewhat widely known, work.

I thought it was doug at first as I recognised the model number from when he dropped some bits off to me recently at weston and they were in a box marked up with LS35A on it!

Rhys, an anorak may well be someone who collects ONE pair of each make of LS3/5a loudspeaker that has been produced by the various BBC licencee's over the last 32 years.

Some of them own 40 - 44 pairs of the things - including the super rare piano blacks LE ones (KEF & Stirling).....In Hong Kong these LS3/5a collections are valued/insured for over GBP 30 K

Jo's modest collection.......notice whose LS3/5a's he actually listens too :

Doug,

Out of interest, what in the construction makes them so highly prized?

Well, in the main it's the SUPERB vocal realism that you only really get from head sized loudspeakers that use thin-wall (9mm) birch plywood construction.

Virtually ALL larger speakers with big frontal areas (baffles) cannot produce human voice (or natural instruments) with the same tonal balance and near holographic central imaging.

When you hear a good LS3/5a system for the first time (usually driven by expensive high quality tube amps), there is a spooky sense of the vocalist/instrument player actually being there - in between the speakers. It's a solid tangible thing that on the very best LS3/5a systems defies belief.

OK, the bass is nothing special - accurate but not a lot of it TBH, because it's an ancient KEF design bass/mid unit (only 4" / 100mm diameter), in a ONE LITRE sealed box............but the overall ballance/voicing of the LS3/5a has stood the test of time and many wanna-be LS3/5a's have come and gone.

The real bonus is new/younger customers discovering this very natural sound and enjoying their collections of LP's/CD's properly for the first time.

Well that's a very comprehensive answer

LOL @ manglue - what a thought!

LOL such interest in little old me, I am honoured, thanks guys

Rhys,
As you asked so nicely....

I changed my user name for several reasons.
The first was that the name that I had previously "ELECTRONIC" was seen by
some (not the admin) as still trading somehow even though I dont actually
trade anything on here anymore. I wasnt forced to change it but thought
that as I couldnt have my original name back, I would think of something
else. As quite a few seem to be using their reg numbers as usernames, I
decided to do the same with my new plate which I have on retention
after selling my old one and doing and exchange with the brokers.
As a result, I have removed some digits and came up with the name
you all see here.

The plate spells my original user name when all digits are shown and a convenient
screw is placed but I didnt think I would get away with the full reg on here
so left a couple of digits out plus my interests include lasers hence the "L".

This plate isnt going on my Focus.

L8 ECU,
Doug, Now you and others have mentioned it, the number does sound familiar
Perhaps it was a sub conceious (sp) choice.
It certainly wasnt a deliberate act to "pay homage" to the BBC's original excellent
design or to advertise things you sell that wouldnt benefit me in anyway.

Besides the number that everyone else is referring to is "LS3/5a"
Fairly different I think.

(for others) I just googled it ... Check here..... www.ls35a.com

From what you have said, I presume you dont have any objections ??
If you do please let me know otherwise and I will change it.

While you are here, a few months ago, on an email, you said you were
going to give me a set of these speakers to keep (using old cabinets).
I have decided to take you up on that offer please ?
If you have forgotten, I can post that email up.
As I have access to proper sound testing facilites now, it would be
interesting to compare them with some other speakers I have.
(Low power vocal monitors)
Thanks

Oh, and I dont want any of your man glue either

AJ THE PF GOD,
I thought you knew, especially after I called you a c*nt. Short and slow ehh?

Absolutely PMSL. Phil,....
I have only had 3 usernames of which 1 I have been forced to change.

LS35A and LS3/5a? Not in the slightest bit different.

Subconcious choice? You ARE kidding right?.

I've really enjoyed using the board lately, it's been pretty constructive, and hasn't had any stupid shite that I've seen. Then you change names, stir on the swedish plenum post, and try to convince us that changing names has nothing to do with your weird obsession with Doug.

I really don't think anyone on here is naive enough to believe the 'conincidental' user name change.

If you stuck with your constructive posts (like the ABS posts you've been helping on for instance) you'd stop me "attacking" you (Attack was your over dramatic description on another post).

Why not cut the crap and just be cool?

Si

SiB,

WTF,
This has nothing at all to do with you personally so why keep the bitching up.
Doug doesnt seem to have an issue and in fact quite the opposite,
perhaps you should read this thread again. If he has, he certainly hasnt
told me and he knows how to contact me at anytime.

You say you have but its obvious to me that you havent got over our little
incident yet ?

For the record, I like to help people no matter who they are but some people do
seem to have very short memories and/or are totally ungratefull for such help
even when I take the trouble to get in my car, use my petrol and travel
to peoples places and help them out without asking for any kind of reward.

Also, when the other day I asked for opinions on manifolds you jumped
down my throat too ????

And yes, I like a bit of the banter as do a few on here including Doug
(Manglue )
I prefer techie posts but with everyone having pops at me (not just you)
banter helps to ease most situations.

I know you have car issues and are probally stressed but dont take it out on me.
(I really feel for you on that matter if that means anything)
If you dont like what I post or say or feel my help is too good for you
then tough. This is a public forum.

I dont want to fall out with you so please I think you need to be cooler yourself mate.

Me, I'm uber cool

Breaking my Cossie has been one of my harder decisions, but also has been a great relief. So I couldn't be any more laid back.

If you just posted that you'd done it for banter / to get a rise from Doug, I'd have known that was the Truth (because it is)

It's the fact that even now, yonks on from the old S8 issues, you feel the need to try and convince everyone on here that your motives are innocent, when only the blissfully ignorant would actually believe you.

THAT is my only gripe with you. As I said back on the old Blackpool post, I was grateful for your offer of a lift, then I was pissed off when you didn't show. People slated you. I then asked for the subject to be dropped after I received a Personal Message from you apologising.

So in conclusion, stop lying, you fool very few people. Be you, as I (and I'm sure most of the others) think you're a great asset to the board

I'm not having a pop, I'm trying to tell it like it is.

And I love banter, hence saying the following:

Shut it you

CUNT

SiB,

Cool, obviously.

Perhaps this thread, this site or the whole internet is all about banter .
Perhaps you have been skillfully hooked........

............or not.
