Default Re-insuring with same Insurer?

Basically, my insurance renewal is due on the 26th May. Anyway, RAC (my current insurers) have sent me a renewal so I did a bit of shopping elsewhere. Got it down by 200 quid with More Than. However, when I went to the RAC site to try a quote, I got it down by a furthur 150 quid (which in total is about 350 quid LESS than the quoted renewal price from the same company! considering the renewal price was £670 and they have quoted me £315 its over half! BIG difference!)

Anyway have saved the quote, is there anything stopping me just saying to RAC "nope dont want to renew" then on the morning of the 26th retrieving the quote and taking it out?

just tell them and they will match it, insurance is the only business where it rewards the new people and the honest loyal people gets screwed out of more money for they years of service

i ahd that with my insurance, got a renewal for 40% more than i payed last year and they told me shite like its down to increase blah blah blah

told em i got a quote else where and so just send out certificate, when it lapsed the called me and i told em im with another firm now but thats for the shite renewal

they requoted to match the other place plus knocked 20 quid off due to there shite non calling me back policy

anyway when the other insurance companys quote didnt have other cars nor european cover i went back to my old place

just call them and tell them to match the online quote or you'll go elsewhere.

this kind of thing happens all of the time, in fact it happens every year with my girlfriend and Diamond...they send renewal price, she checks net price and phones to have it matched.

I hate how insurance companies do this. I can rember my renewal coming through when I was 19 and my insurance actualy went up £400 with the only change being 1 extra years ncb. I went onto the net, and saw that I could go with the same companie for half of my old policy, yet allown the renewal price! I simply cancelled my policy(i.e didnt reneew) and started a new one about 5 mins later.

Our Industry needs to sort this out as most of our Industry (along with quite a few others) seems to do this, chaing new rather than retaining existing customers which makes no business sense.

There are far more costs associated with obtaining and processing a new business case than dealing with a renewal.

Greenlight's stance has always been to reflect this within the renewal premium and I can confirm that unless there has been a change in circumstances mid-term you'll always find that our premiums will either remain static (despite inflation) or from the first renewal forth reduce to reflect the actual work involved.

Here endeth the whinge.

i look forward to getting my renewal in a few months then Tony

considering i turn 25 in a few days, i'll have 1 yrs extra NCD and the car will be garaged properly in the next few weeks ( when i move to the new address )

i'd like it to be about £1.36..... and i'll still pay monthly

Hi Ryan,

We can cover drivers 21-24 up to £15k without referral, it is possible to go beyond this level if we can convince an Underwriter that you're a good proposition (ie. NCB/Experience).

£15k is quote a lot of cash for a car and historically we found that many drivers aged 21-24 simply didnt own vehicles beyond this.

There is a very low purchase rate for these and some of our Underwiters can tend to take the stereotypical view that we/our client is dreaming of a 'one day purchase' rather than proceeding to buy the car (+ the Insurance).

If however, we prove there to be a justifyable business case for these risks and get an influx of these we would begin by referring to Underwriters, who if piloted successfully would ultimately look to expand our schemes to cater for them.

Pm me if you'd like me to get involved.

Kind regards

Tony
