Default TO DUMP OR NOT TO DUMP THAT IS THE QUESTION

I personally hate dump valves as they irritate the sh*t out of me.

The question is do I really need one ???????

My car goes better off boost without it and my car is quieter

I have asked a few "EXPERTS" and got different answers every time.

Anyone on here have a SENSIBLE answer to this ?

With the turbo and boost you are running I would use a recirc one, This will be quite.

I would be worried about running such a large turbo without one, But you never know until you have tried, Never looked under his bonnet to see if one was there,
I dont run them on T34 or smaller but run them on larger.

so if you run 34psi with a t-34 you dont use a dv and with a t-4 with 28psi you are using a dv (for example)

thats very strange.

and it doesnt make sence

Anyone actually had a turbo break due to not running a DV? (Ie the shaft or wheels sheering?)

Vince at Universal Turbo's told me only use one on T4 and bigger due to the amount of air with no where to go.....on my new turbo which is quite unique by the looks i dont need one even at 34psi held.

BUT thats all bollocks if you dont RUN a 360 degree bearing.

so you mean......if you dont have 360 bearings you have to use a dv.

so it does put a lot of stress on the bearings afterall.

Like i said before, all this 360 bearing, certain size turbos, certain boost, blah blah, anyone got any actual facts or proof of what breaks and when?

I mean, no harm in running one just to be sure (i think im gonna maybe even run 2 even tho i dont like DVs) but do when know when you REALLY need one?

If you only got a 270 degree bearing and run MORE than standard boost run a dump valve......i think all aftermarket turbo's run 360 bearings.

GARETH T, I am going to keep the dumpy valvey thingy but I am going
to control it with a 3 way electronic solenoid valve controlled by the ecu
so it only dumps when driven hard above a certain rev value (eg 3000 rpm)
and obviously closed during ALS run time.

I am currently testing ALS for the S8 ecu - All those who have purchased
an S8 can download the software upgrade soon. (Free of Charge)

Wouldnt we say a dumpvalve near the compressor outlet is a damn good idea as the whole point is to stop reversed air pressure hitting the compressor wheel?

I was thinking running one near the throttle and one near the compressor outlet if running 2.

GARETH T

Its a myth that you dont RUN a dump valve and anti lag.

I talk from experience... T4 has to have a dump valve like i did..and i was running Anti Lag as does Mike R...it makes NO difference that i saw to its operation.....maybe on a T34 or below but they dont need a dump valve....The T4 only can produce 0psi at tickover anyway!

SECS, cool idea mate,, but remember the pressure ontop f the dumpvalve helps close and seal it helping the spring
