Default Bodywork Experts

Hiya

Ive been doing my first bits of bodywork ever...hmm! lol.

Mixed results.

Had to do some work on a Mini, never done anything like it before.

Had to do some filling, used P38 Isopon, but it seemed very thick, and when running the scraper tool over the top of it to apply it flat, it dragged it all back up So had to leave it piled right up and spend an eternity sanding it down. Are there any better, and much thinner fillers about?

Also, when I sprayed it, I used filler primer, then Zinc primer (grey, as the paint needed a grey primer), then a few coats of metalic paint, all looked OK at this stage, but when I applied the laquer, it looked SHIT.

Not sure if I was supposed to flat the metalic down before spraying the laquer? (I did).

Paint/primers were only Halfords rattle cans, so may expalin a few things.

Anyone got any advice on that? Hopefully ill be able to do a few more bits soon and build up some experiance.

Metallic paint out of an aersol almost always looks shit!!
P38 is a perfectly good filler. I suspect you were either putting too much on at once (deep areas should be built up in layers) or you used too much hardener (very common) and it was going off as you were trying to work with it.
Did you rub down the primer filler, and then the primer before spraying with the colour?
Its amazing how good a rippley surface can look in primer!
Rubbing paint and filler down is extremely tedious - but its the only way to get a good finish.

Oh and dont worry - its a mini! You'll get loads of practice!! Ever done any welding? lol!

THanks!

Probably was too much hardner, was set soilid within 5mins of mixing.

I did indeed run down the filler primer and then the primer, the colour looked good until I rubbed that down and laquered it, lol....totally flat and different shade of blue now

if its a metallic colour it should hav been a base coat which
wouldnt need flatting before applying the laquer, you would
hav to flat and polish the laquer though
