Default Do the later type screw oil filler caps on cossies leak oil

Went to look at a Cossie but it had a bit of oil laying on top of the rocker cover all the way along where the spark plugs go in, the only thing i can think of is that the screw on oil filler cap must be a poor seal as how the hell can oil get up that high ?

Simon.

Well simon , my half moons were leaking mate , and on boost (only really found out due to rolling road) my oil was spraying out and spraying everwhere , and basically when bonnet was shut it was going over undrside of bonnet and then dripping down onto rocker cover , a simple bit of sealer was needed at bottom ends of half moons and job done , but it can get anywhere and everwhere , and will most probably be coming from that area for sure

Use a CEREAL BOX and cut out a round washer to fit behind the seal so as to preload it, may need two depending on thickness of card.

I used a rubber 'O' ring on mine to do the same, been fine ever since

OK thanks guys i haven't bought the car yet as a little worried when i checked the oil it didn't even register on the dipstick the guy said he hadn't checked it for about 1500 miles or more, the engine sounded very sweet even though it must be very low on oil & also has an engine rebuild bill from Graham Goode for Ł10990 (its high spec, touring car head RS500 8inj etc)but its done 33k since, being low on oil has put me off a bit.

If i get it i will try the old cereal packet trick !

Cheers simon.
