Default Pectel Replacement engine moniter!!!!FAO SECS

Got my one coming tommorrow direct from Collins (as i supply them!) the pro version too Apparently i can alter fueling and ignition plus gives every thing the petel did and just plugs into the diagnostics plug ..Watch for a review soon.

I have now decided NOT to use the S8 but the L8 and this moniter instead....as i am getting a Collins chip which works in conjuction with this moniter i think....and then get it proper set up

Simon...dont send the other ECU i will return this one i got..thanks for your offer but this is a more viable route for me for my diy engine..ie it will go bang soon and i would only blame your ECU..ROFL.

Hope your not offended!

so youre gonna map your DIY engine with a tiny LCD display and 2 knobs

you have any idea how long that'd take, and all the features it DOESN'T have

Phil,
I am dissapointed that you have changed your mind but that is your perogative.

I am even more fed up that you did not phone and tell me first and I had to
read this here as I only heard you changed your mind about the ECU
when a friend rung and told me to look at PF.

The S8 in my biased opinion is a good product and even better when you compare
the prices against even buying aftermarket ECU or 8 injector L8 ecu.

This TRY BEFORE YOU BUY offer was may in this public arena and now you have changed your
mind for what ever reason this will always cast bad doubts in the minds of people
on here about the S8 product.

Anyway I dont hold any hard feelings and I wish you good luck with your car.

As a comment about your chosen route now.....

The Pectel/Colins monitor only makes TEMPORARY changes that are reflected over the entire map.
I.E when you switch the engine off, it will revert to what is is the chip and when adjusting say the fuel trim,
EVERY point in the map will be adjusted as it is an overall adjustment not
on a point in the map basis.
You can still blow your car up when making these adjustments !
(Stu please back me up on these points above)

EDITED: Just seen your post above ! Thanks Stu

Phil,
As Stu says, the professional monitor is a tool for mapping on the dyno with a system (such as P8) that can't be live mapped.

What you do is load the engine to X revs, check the A/F and then make adjustments on the monitor to get this right (either putting in or taking out fuel and / or ignition), making a note of the adjustments that were need to get the A/F spot on. You then reset the monitor so that it is back to zero (as in fuel / ignition curve exactly what is on the chip) and then repeat the process for each rev increment. Once you have done this, you adjust the information as per your notes for each increment, burn the chip, replace it in the ECU and then repeat the process at each increment to just make sure the adjustments made get the desired A/F. If not, then you just use monitor to adjust them up or down from the new "zero" point that the reprogrammed chip has at the relevent increments. Once fully completed, the chip can then be burned.

Obviously it can be done live as well, you just make the required adjustments on the monitor to get the desired A/F and then change that point in the map on the laptop to the "zero point" plus what you had to adjust the monitor to get the A/F spot on and then pull the lever on the dyno again to check it. You can then see why Pectel P8 takes a lot longer to map than doing it live...

Jim , some prices for you.....

Weber Level 8 (8 injector version) Ł700 - Ł900 second hand
(Dont know how much they are new)

Other aftermarket ECU Ł900 - Ł3000 depending on make plus total loom rewiring.
May have additional cost for more for than 4 injectors.

SECS S8 Ł500 and drives 8 injectors as standard and plugs
straight into the existing loom.

IMA shows his intelligence and manners (or lack of) once again

i look forward to the day he has to crawl back to SECS to apologise and use the S8 ecu again.

Phil,

In the short rerm you may be quite happy with the Pectel Engine Monitor (PRO version)........It's not a bad unit at all....

BUT when you see a NEW monitor that will be in production in a few weeks time you will kick yourself untill your shins bleed - I've seen the pre-production version - I'ts in another leauge to ANY monitor that had been produced to date!! It would not look out of place in a Ł 100 + k Ferrari/Porche/Lambo either

Doug - Is this the NEW SECS monitor? If so do you know when it is out? And do you know if it is only for the S8 or will plug into my L8?

And Simon as you will no doubt be keeping an eye on this thread, can you answer any of my questions?

Cheers chaps!!

A brief spec of the new monitor .....

5 inch by 1.5 inch graphical display using vacuum flourescent display (BLUE)
Displays upto 8 items on a page at once or less if you use the scalable fonts
function.
Displays trends/graphs and oscilogram style pictures.
Animated icons for BLING factor!

Sold in a standard DIN style case or Billet aluminum box.

The new monitor will work on any Cossie ecu....
L1,L6,L8,P8 using the existing method of measuring the voltages directly.
Also, will plug in and work like the PECTEL monitor using the serial port
and allow adjustments

Does data logging, has facility for extra external sensors such as oil pressure,
oil temperature, EGT, fuel pressure.

Plus other fords using EEC4 and EEC5 (Focus RS)
(Eventually S1 and S2 escort)

Plus this also works on other cars using the standard OBD port
Honda, Subaru, Subaru, Mitsubishi, VW, BMW, AUDI, Renault, Peugeot etc......
(Even diesels)

Does fault code reading/clearing and on some cars allows adjustments such as
rev limits minor increase.

Price, pictures, details, will be publicised within the next 5 to 10 days.
May even do a group buy special price for PF
Cant say much more at the moment so please dont ask thanks.
It WILL be worth the wait......

I appreciate all your enthsiasm but it will only get publicised when it is
available for sale or a definate date can be given for deliveries.
This date should be known within the week.

Anyway this thread is going off the subject a bit !!!!

:: And just before it does ::

Although I find this post interesting and have to question Phil’s new found mapping ideas, I have to thank him in advance for the entertainment value brought to this website with his future progress.

On the subject of SECS management, I do find on this front that the name and shame is used more and more. The very fact that overnight turners pop up all over does make the business very difficult to operate.

But in SECS’s case I found post after post regarding parts not sent etc. I wanted to buy a SECS ECU and all the goodies that came with this. Yes I had money to buy this and not put off by posts of complaining, I was just a simple customer, so I was putting all this to one side and starting with a blank sheet of paper.

I phoned Simon and said I would like to buy this, he said I’ll call you back, few days went by and no call so I thought he’s a busy man I’ll send him a polite reminded so he can pick it up when he has a few minutes, not one 3 . Well 3 months on and still no contact or response, why do I see all these great things coming out but can buy them you all say it’s a bargain. But is it if you can’t get it.

I’m a great believe in don’t knock a gift horse in the mouth and I for one would like to see the progress of this ECU

Warren, completley agree....

after trying to buy a monitor like this, I had the same issues with contact etc.. and just left down to being busy etc...

i see this 5-10 days as a tad optimistic

But Simon, please prove me wrong take my money and send me a monitor
